brandUn Deshay: "I Wanted to Bring Her Flowers"

"We can't move forward until we get passed our past."

brandUn DeShay dropped this to celebrate Phony Ppl's new EP, nothinG special. This jazzy and reflective track was inspired and produced by Phony Ppl, and shows how DeShay is just as good behind the mic as he is on the boards.  Listen to the record and download it below.

**update Phony Ppl hit us up and asked us to take down the song, saying it is not official or sanctioned.  I dug it though and respect both artists.

The Brooklyn-based group, Phony Ppl, dropped their Phonyland album back in January. They're back with nothinG special which showcases more of their inimitable sound. They continue to manage to create fresh, organic, blends of multiple genres as they tell a story of a New York summer. Fellow Brooklynite, Theophelius London lends a hand with a feature. Bas: "Nothin' is Free"

This is not a typo. Bas, not Nas, came out with Quarter Water Raised Me in August of last year and now we've got the first single off of his forthcoming Quarter Water Raised Me Vol. 2. Bas hasn't said when the tape is supposed to be released but there have been rumors that there will be a J. Cole produced track, maybe more than one, on the tape.

[Movie Trailer] The Man with the Iron Fists

The RZA-produced and co-written film, The Man with the Iron Fists, came out with its first trailer today.  Eli Roth and RZA hatched the idea back in 2005 and starting sometime in 2007, they spent  about two years writing the screenplay and ironing out all of the details. Quentin Tarantino's name and influence is and will continue to be all over this film, but from the credits, it looks like this is truly RZA and Eli's project. The film stars Russell Crowe, Lucy Liu, RZA, and more. The film is bound to have a killer sound track (as indicated at the end of the preview below) and it's due out December 21, 2012. Asher Roth: "Good Morning View"

The summer solstice officially started today at 7:09 PM EST and Asher didn't miss it. He's back with another tune fit for a summer soundtrack. Much like the recently released "Outside", this new track fits those laid back summer vibes with its acoustic guitar-driven instrumentals. Produced by David Appleton. Is This Too Orange? comes out soon. If only it wasn't cooking outside...

The Awesome Sound-produced track has quotes from the 20th century icon and pop-art visionary throughout and has a much edgier feel than a lot of XV's past material. Check it out below

Bandcamp Launches "The Discoverinator", A New Way to Find New Music

A lot of artists we work with have Bandcamp sites as a means to give listeners a way to listen to and download or buy their work. For those who aren't familiar with Bandcamp, it's essentially an online music store that also acts as a promotional platform for artists and it is a great source for discovering new acts. Little did we know, Bandcamp was hard at work doing what Pandora should have done years ago, creating a way for music fans to take a far more active and engaging approach to music discovery. The Discoverinator allows users to browse by artist, genre, artist recommendations, best-selling, etc. And according to Bandcamp, they're working on a mobile app. Sweet.

Here's what Bandcamp had to say...

"There are hundreds of thousands of albums on Bandcamp, but no easy way to browse through them and find your new favorite band. So we set out to build something that would take what we love most about traditional record stores — the serendipitous discovery that happens when we go to our favorite section and just flip through covers — and combine it with elements that are uniquely Bandcamp: the ability to listen to full streams, browse through every artist’s merch, see what the bands themselves recommend, and explore a deep and constantly expanding catalog of great independent music. That’s the Discoverinator."
