[Mixtape] M.i: The Coldplay Sessions

M.i is back again and this time it's with the whole Colplay Sessions mixtape which consists of 15 records mixed, directed, and written by the Austin-based artist. Every track's production features samples from Coldplay songs and the production does a good job of crafting original sounds out of familiar instrumentals. Grab the tape below

REKS: "Autographs" (Prod. by Statik Selektah)

REKS unleashes the first single off of his forthcoming album, Straight, No Chaser, which is dropping on Showoff Records. This track is indicative of the chemistry that these frequent collaborators have together and you can be sure that they'll be bringing their A-game for this album which is going to be entirely produced by Statik Selektah. I'm digging the Beastie Boys sample...

[Video] STS: "Outta Control" (GOLD Rush)

No track is safe. This includes Brittany Spears' "How I Roll" which is the victim of Sugar Tongue Slim's latest GOLD Rush flip. "Outta Control" uses a sample from the original in which there are no actual real words which coincidentally is the least awful part of Ms. Spears' track. The production makes it a nice background for STS to play with and he drops his signature flow until the fade out. Peep the video below. GOLD Rush will drop on February 29th.

[EP] Ed Sheeran x Yelawolf: Slumdon Bridge

The unlikely pairing is back with their 4-track EP, Slumdon Bridge. The Gadsden, Alabama and Halifax, England connection is odd but it works as Ed Sheeran and Yela manage to stay out of each other's way as they bring their skills together. The EP is solid but whether you like it or not, it's nice to see artists combining and developing new styles to keep pushing the boundaries. Cop the EP below.

M.I: "NoThing"

This is the last single before the drop of The Coldplay Sessions on February 21st. This time M.I uses a strings sample from Coldplay's "Yes" off of their 2008 album, Viva La Vida. M.I goes in over the beat he produced himself, discussing his frustration with the industry that's created by the contrast of his love for his craft and the superficial aspects of the game. Dunson: "Count On It"

Dunson, formerly known as Kenton Dunson, teamed up with the Grammy-nominated production trio known as the Phatboiz for his latest release, "Count on It". This is some of the coolest production I've heard in a while and as soon as I heard the track, I knew where the most prominent sample was from. "Count On It" is the unofficial first release off of Dunson's forthcoming mixtape, The Investment.

Tony Williams: "Another You" ft. Kanye West

There was a snippet of this cousin and labelmate collabo on Tony's last mixtape, Some of My Best Rappers Are Friends, and now we've got the full version thanks to Green Lantern's satellite radio show. This track is on Tony's new album, King or the Fool, which is on iTunes now.

Chiddy Bang: "Extra Well" ft. Chip Tha Ripper

This track won't be on Breakfast but it will appear on the duo's forthcoming mixtape, Grab a Plate. Chiddy tags Chip for the second and final verse on which Chip sounds at home over the synth-laden beat. Xaphoon always cooks up something interesting and this track is no exception. The download's below.
