Blu: "ez" (prod. by Madlib)

Blu

"Of course God gotta floss, keep'em all salty."

Black Star released their new joint, "Fix Up", on Black Friday.  The new song is produced by Madlib, and kicks off some sort of re-emergence from Talib Kweli and Mos Def Yasiin.  Anyone familiar with the inner-workings of Hip Hop and beat placement knows that producers often send the same song to multiple artists, just to see what catches.  Every once in a while, two emcees will pick the same record, and this type of situation arises.  Blu had a song recorded for what became "Fix Up", and he send it over to OKP to share.  Blu's version, entitled "ez" is Blu's classic lo-fi recording style, and lyrical dexterity.  I dig Blu's version in which he compares himself to Lebron James, pictures himself in Forbes, and speaks on God's need to floss. S**t is dope. Hopefully we'll get more Madlib x Blu joints, as supposedly Blu has a whole project over Madlib production that just never saw the light of day.

What version do you think is better?

J. Ivy

J. Ivy has a lot of good things coming his way.  He's currently featured with Faith Hill on NBC's Sunday Night Football, and was nominated for an Emmy for his forthcoming song, "Off In Chicago".  Despite his own good fortune, on the forefront of his mind is the crumbling state of current affairs, from the economy, environment, and protests.  They take centerstage on "War", an amazing song and video featuring Blitz The Ambassador.  Watch it below.

Calez: "Good Lawd" featuring Kembe X and Alex Wiley

Good Lawd

Interesting pairing of buzzing Chi-blogosphere artists Calez and Kembe X, along with Alex Wiley and Julian Malone.  It also represents 2008ighties and Swag Village.  Lots of boasting and bragging, which puts aggressive vocals vs laid back instrumental produced by Malone.  Download it below.

What The F*&k?!: Gorilla Milk

Gorilla Milk

So it has become a trend in the online Hip Hop community for people to sort of blur the lines between comedy and seriousness in their music and their brands. For me, it usually takes a while to warm up to these types of artists and really see what everyone else sees. Most of the time I usually just continue to think they're clowns, regardless of how successful they become. Bozo was probably loaded. However, there are some dudes out here that will forever be goofy ass lames. With that said, I would like to introduce you to B-Dub and Young Hatti, a.k.a, Gorilla Milk.
