New Ender's Game propaganda posters want you to join the International Fleet
The International Fleet is the centralized government in the Ender's Game universe. The film has a viral site named after the government's ship, I.F. Sentinel, has recently released some propaganda posters that share three different parts of the International Fleet's recruitment process. As film posters, they don't really stand out against similar sci-fi films. However, that's not to say that they don't look good; they definitely capture the tone Gavin Hood is exploring for the film. If you need a reminder, last month's Ender's Game trailer is still around.
Ender's Game will be hitting theaters on November 1st. Below are the three propaganda posters for the film.
[Trailer] Gatchaman
http://youtu.be/LVKaIFxQa98
Before the Ninja Turtles, Power Rangers, Big Bad Beetleborgs, VR Troopers, etc, there was the Science Ninja Team Gatchaman. Known in the States under the title Battle of the Planets, the '70s anime focused on a team of five young people with superhero abilities, complete with awesome, color-coordinated costumes. 40 years after the first Gatchman series debuted in Japan, a live-action film adaptation is prepping to be released in Japan this August.
While the film hasn't been confirmed for a US release (and will probably only find foreign import distribution), it's looking really stylized and good. Modernized with contemporary technology, Gatchaman should fill in the void left for anybody lamenting the lack of a formal Power Rangers film sequel. Considering the film was made in Japan, the fights should be outlandish and entertaining.

(UPDATE: We have our winners! Congratulations go out to @CRichAlchemist and @erioapilado for winning. Please send your shipping info to geoff[at]rubyhornet.com. Thanks again to everybody that entered! Go Hawks!)
The Stanley Cup playoffs have swept Chicago by storm. Much like their historic 2009-2010 Stanley Cup season, the Chicago Blackhawks are back at the forefront of the city's sports with a hard-fought series against the 2010-2011 Stanley Cup champions and fellow Original Six hockey team, the Boston Bruins. With the entire city clad in Blackhawks red, hockey fever has definitely infected both diehard fans and bandwagon fans anticipating another Blackhawks rally.
Some of you might know our new writer Bobby Reys from his amazing clothing line, Lions & Reys. To help celebrate the Blackhawks' Stanley Cup run, Ruby Hornet and Lions and Reys have teamed together to announce a contest to win one a Lions & Reys Blackhawks shirt. If you're interested (and really, why wouldn't you be?), check out the contest information below.
We have two shirts available, 1 S for a lucky lady and 1 XL for a happy homie. Considering how vaunted the actual Stanley Cup is, it's considered an honor to be able to actually touch the cup. Every member of a Stanley Cup team is allowed one day to do whatever they wish with the cup: some drink out of it, others place babies in it for good luck, while most simply relax in awe over the chance to actually possess it. We're asking you to tell us what you would do if you had a day with the cup.
To enter, simply tweet us what you would do using this template: "#BecauseItsTheCup, -blah blah blah-. #HornetsAndReys @rubyhornet http://rbyhrnt.com/15nHwJn" For those that don't use Twitter, you can either leave a comment on this post or on our Facebook post. If you decide to leave us a comment on the site, please include your email address so we can contact you if you win. The funniest and/or most creative entries will win! There are no limits to the number of entries you can have. We'll keep the contest going until Monday (6/24) when the Blackhawks can hopefully close out this series and bring the Stanley Cup home.
Good luck and go Hawks!
[Trailer 3] Pacific Rim + Gallery
http://youtu.be/_ssjFfDi6mc
This latest trailer for Guillermo del Toro's mecha epic, Pacific Rim, downplays the action found in the last trailer. Instead, Idris Elba's (Thor) character, the commanding officer Stacker Pentecost, delivers a speech to his team that serves as a framing device for the trailer. We've all seen it in a multitude of trailers: an optimistic, uplifting voiceover is played over a mix of both action-packed and dramatic sequences, building up a crescendo before some final, lasting image. Been there, done that, right? At least with Pacific Rim, there are huge monsters and robots.
Seriously, I can't get over how excited I am for the film, and from what I've seen around the internet and with fellow film critics/writers, it appears I'm not the only one. del Toro definitely deserves all of the acclaim Pacific Rim will, I'm assuming, receive from both critics and audiences. Included in this post are a few new stills from the film. You can find the full gallery of almost 60 new Pacific Rim images over at Collider.
[Trailer] Prince Avalanche
http://youtu.be/ewpjHDZzT7A
Prince Avalanche serves as writer/director David Gordon Green's return to the independent comedy drama genre. Following his last directed film, The Sitter, Prince Avalanche stars Paul Rudd (I Love You, Man) and Emile Hirsch (Into the Wild) as Alvin and his girlfriend's brother, Lance, respectively, during a summer spent painting traffic lines on a highway. While the two don't initially get together, they begin to warm up to one another as time passes. It's definitely a character-driven film that balances drama with comedy.
Don't let Green's recent films fool you: his dramatic films (Undertow, Snow Angels) are a lot better than his comedy films(Pineapple Express, The Sitter). And while Rudd is primarily known as a comedy actor, he definitely has the chops for drama; on the same hand, Hirsch's best role to date was in his award-winning film, Into the Wild.
Prince Avalanche should definitely be on your "to-watch" lists when it hits theaters on August 9th.
Jim Carrey kicks Kick-Ass 2 in the ass
Despite the anticipation built for Kick-Ass 2 from both fans of the original film and the comic book series it's adapted from, a large piece of the promotional puzzle for the project involved banking on the prestige that comes with Jim Carrey's (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) name. After all, while appearing in a variety of both dramas and comedies over the past decade, Kick-Ass 2 represents his return to the superhero action genre since 1995's Batman Forever. However, it appears that Kick-Ass 2 will have to endure the promotional rounds without the actor.
Early yesterday, Carrey tweeted the following:
I did Kickass a month b4 Sandy Hook and now in all good conscience I cannot support that level of violence. My apologies to e
— Jim Carrey (@JimCarrey) June 23, 2013
I meant to say my apologies to others involve with the film. I am not ashamed of it but recent events have caused a change in my heart.
— Jim Carrey (@JimCarrey) June 23, 2013
It comes as a shocker, especially as the film is set to increase its promotional visibility. Carrey's heart is in the right place, but his refusal to support and promote the film could negatively affect the film's box office intake. Kick-Ass writer/co-creator Mark Millar also shared a public response to Carrey's statements. Hopefully Carrey will reconsider, or at least offer some support for the film instead of outright blackballing the project he and many others have spent a lot of time and money creating.

[Trailer] Jobs
[yahoo id="movies.yahoo.com/video/jobs-trailer-161011991" mode="normal" align="center"]
Last year, when Ashton Kutcher was announced to portray the late Apple co-founder, Steve Jobs, many met the news with mixed reactions. After all, with Kutcher best known as a wayward ladies man in That 70's Show, it's no surprise that his attachment to the film wouldn't be well-received. With this first trailer released, Jobs is looking a bit iffy. Directed by Joshua Michael Stern, the film covers a four decade span of Jobs' life with a focus on some of the landmark achievements during his illustrious career.
Its Sundance premiere earlier didn't receive a great response, but there should still be appeal for the Apple crowd. I feel mixed about the film myself, especially given the mixed tone of the trailer that is desperate to leave an emotional mark on viewers. And while I have nothing against Kutcher, I just can't dive into this without being able to separate him from Steve Jobs, which is never a good sign for a film, biopic or otherwise.
We can all take a bite out of Jobs when it hits theaters on August 16th.
