Mad Decent

We told you about this mixtape a while, and on Saturday posted a featured remix from Willy Joy and Benzi.  The full Free Gucci mixtape, put together by the good folks at Mad Decent is available now right here.  A word of caution though, the site seems to experiencing some trouble due to the high amount of volume and traffic.  If it doesn't work right away, check back later.

Jack Splash

"They want to know where the funk is at, I tell'em..."

Jack Splash is back, and making a splash... That's was pretty lame, but what is not lame is ".38 Special" a metaphorical ode to Splash's lyrical sharpshooting as well as tribute to fellow gunman.  It will all make sense after listening.  Get it below.

Lil' Wayne Is Jesus... And "On Fire"

Lil' Wayne

I haven't been very quiet in my dislike thus far of Lil' Wayne's Rebirth project, and while it's a cool video (I guess), "On Fire" does little for me musically.  Nevertheless, in an attempt to gain converts, Lil' Wayne pumps more money into Rebirth through a Chris Robinson directed video for "On Fire".  Great stuff.. What is more interesting is Lil' Wayne's role in T-Pain's upcoming Adult Swim show "Freakniks".  Wayne will voice a freaky Jesus... Is there any other kind of Jesus?  See "On Fire" below.

Annie: "Don't Stop"

Annie

I think I've fallen asleep and woken up in a coming of age Michael J. Fox movie... Annie's "Don't Stop" is a retro fitted jam about pedal to the medal enthusiasm, and we dig it.  This is also the title track of the Norwegian pop star's 2nd album.  You can download it below via RCRDLBL

Nneka Tour Dates

Nneka

One of the artists I am most excited about in the new year is Nneka, who's U.S. debut, Concrete Jungle, will be dropping Feb. 2nd.  Nneka will be in NYC the day the album is released, on her first U.S. headlining tour.  The stint will see her hit 14 cities, including S.F., L.A., Chicago (2.14. at Double Door), Atlanta, and elsewhere.  She will also appear on David Letterman Feb. 3rd.  Nneka recently released a mixtape with J. Period, which you can download here.  Continue reading for full tour dates, as well as video below.

XV: "Me, You" Remix featuring Freddie Gibbs, Shawn Chrystopher

XV

First there was Twitter from XV saying that he was going to leak a new track, and then the track was in my inbox.  I love how that works.  We first highlighted XV in '08, and since then he's really taken off.  The equivalent of a top draft pick from mid-major, XV's success from Witchita, Kansas proves the distribution power of the internet. XV says as much in the "Me, You" remix, features Freddie Gibbs, and Shawn Chrystopher.  Seven on production... XV's remix project with DJ Benzi coming soon.

Download it here.

Scheme: "Lose Your Soul" featuring Mikkey Halsted

Lose Your Soul

"Greed gets you," says Mikkey Halsted.  "You might start out from a real place of real hunger, or real starvation or real poverty.  You're really just trying to feed yourself.  But then feeding yourself and getting a roof over your head is not enough."

We all know the story of once heralded sports stars banished for cheating.  Successful businessmen caught with hands in the cookie jar who go from rich to poor to behind bars in the blink of an eye.  Countless times we are introduced to characters such as Scarface that just don't know when to quit and consequently become victims of their own greed. Such is the tale on "Lose Your Soul", a song created by Scheme, an emerging emcee out of The Molemen camp, one of Chicago's most respected crews.

"Lose Your Soul" was produced by Panik of the Molemen, and Scheme enlisted the services of Mikkey Halsted as well as Indianapolis based DJ Metrognome to complete the song.  Mikkey and Scheme came together at SoundScape Studios with RubyHornet to record the track, which will be featured on Scheme's upcoming mixtape, Same Rebel New Cause.  Below you will find a behind the scenes video of how the song came together, as well as each artists' take on the music and each other.  You will also find the song, which is available for free download.
