Ben One: "My Eyes"

Ben One

DJ Emaculate sent over this new single from Ben One, who many of you know from "I'll Never Leave My Girl", and maybe a few of you know him from his boy band days of Strong...Hopefully some of you know him from the this interview we did with Ben about a year ago.  If "Never Leave My Girl" was about being on a sneak tip, "My Eyes" is a bit more upfront about everything...Pianos galore!  Hit the jump and get it yourself.  Time will tell if Ben can repeat "I'll Never Leave My Girl" success.

RH Photos: Chicago Picasso Celebration

Naledge and Bun b

It was a star-studded celebration of Naledge's upcoming solo jaunt, The Chicago Picasso.  The "not-a-mixtape" project was mixed by RH's DJ RTC and hosted by fellow Chicagoan Timbuck2 and Cleveland's Mick Boogie, making it a four person Midwest affair.  We celebrated May 20th at The Legroom in no sneakers style.  Izzo and RTC were on the 1's and 2's playing an assortment of Hip Hop as well as choice cuts from the LP dropping on June 30th via Duck Down Records.  Chuck English, Mic Terror, Chip Tha Ripper, and many more from Chicago's scene were in the building, along with Bun B.  Check out the rest of the Virgil Solis' pics below, and don't forget to look out for The Chicago Picasso June 30th.  You can also pick up the limited Dope Couture tees made in connection to the release.

Rhymefest: "El Che Coming In October"

Rhymefest

I stopped by Soiree last night for the Lyricist Fix.  The event feature a party/performances by Chicago Hip Hoppers The Rocketeers, Love Jones, Slot A, Dave Coresh, and others.  Rhymefest was the host and shortly after The Rocketeers and slightly before asking the DJ to play more Gangstarr, Fest announced his split with J Records and that his long awaited El Che will be dropping independently in October.  Fest said he still has a good relationship with the label, but that he's recorded close to 100 songs that haven't been put out causing frustration and a lapse in judgment into the world of auto-tune.  According to Fest, the label heads loved his venture into T-Pain land and wanted to put one out as a single, but Fest couldn't let that happen and asked to part ways.  Anyway, the long and short of it is that his record with Greg Nice is too Nice, Fest will be releasing new music on his own, and will also be headling my set at Do Division Fest.  Don't miss it.

Jason Shannon: "Mighty Mighty River"

Jason Shannon

I just didn't really think people were making music like this anymore.  Jason Shannon's "Mighty Mighty River" is a blues/rock throwback that should be playing in someone's car as they drive down a long stretch of highway.  Listen/download below to see what I mean...via Thumbprint.
