Back in 2012, DreamWorks Animation acquired the rights to Classic Media’s library of intellectual properties. Some of the franchises include VoltronMasters of the Universe, and Rocky and Bullwinkle. In a recent keynote, DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg shed some news on the acquisition which, up until that point, hadn’t been detailed in full:

It’s not, ‘What are we going to do with those 6,100 episodes we have’ … although we’ll get value out of those … the real opportunity is to take every one of those franchises and reinvent them. And that’s what we will set out to do.

In saying that, the first steps towards CGI adaptations of the aforementioned franchises have been unofficially made. It’s only a matter of time before the company gets the ball rolling on these multiple projects. They not only have appeal for new and old generations, but there’s already natural crossover potential for toy lines and merchandise that could bring in more money for the studio.

All I care about is a Voltron film that doesn’t suck.
