The Monuments Men visits the tried and true setting of World War II. However, unlike most period pieces set amidst the backdrop of Hitler’s reign of terror, the George Clooney-written/directed film isn’t your average WWII film. As elaborated in this new trailer for the film, the titular “monuments men” were a platoon of soldiers and art experts hired by then-President Roosevelt to rescue art held captive by the Nazis. Unfortunately, this meant crossing enemy lines to retrieve them, which poses an even bigger threat when you realize the platoon is made up of art historians, curators, and museum directors. Alongside Clooney are Bill Murray, Matt Damon, John Goodman, and more.
The Monuments Men will be in theaters on December 18th.
