Mikkey Halsted's "Liquor Store" Featured on NPR

Local NPR affiliate, WBEZ, published a story detailing Chicago's Inner-city Muslim Action Network's (IMAN) initiative to explore corner stores, and Chicago's on going food dessert problem. The group used Mikkey Halsted's video for "Liquor Store" as a research tool, along with interviewing liquor store owners, many of whom are Muslims working in predominantly African-American neighborhoods.

Knottz has named his forthcoming album, You Need This Music, and with "Shine So Brite", he makes a great case. The song is also a tribute to J Dilla, as Knottz pays homage to the seminal Hip Hop producer both in the sounds of his drums, as well the content of his first verse. The second verse adds intrigue, as Knottz switches to warning average-looking women not to talk to the police. The video is directed by Illusive Media, and they did a fantastic job. See it below.

Snoop Dogg played to a sold out crowd at The Metro on Tuesday. Snoop's nearly 60-minute set included songs new and old, featured Daz and Kurupt, and a good time was definitely had by all. Virgil Solis was in "the pit" and snapped these shots.
