Well well well… Marvel goes and creates the most successful film in history with The Avengers, which itself was a culmination of a number of other films, now every studio holding a superhero property want to duplicate the success by creating their own film universes that will bring in the cash flow. Look at the huge mess that is DC and WB’s Batman vs. Superman, Fox is creating retroactively creating a unified X-Men universe, and now Sony has confirmed their own intentions (and my own suspicions) of expanding on the The Amazing Spider-Man universe.

Last night, Sony confirmed their intentions to create a series of Spider-Man spin-off films, the first of them focusing on Venom and the Sinister Six. As I mentioned in the The Amazing Spider-Man 2 trailer post, the hints and rumors of the Sinister Six’s involvement in subsequent films has been confirmed. It appears that “The Amazing Spider-Man 4” could very well be focused on the Sinister Six’s gallery of Rhino, Kraven, Mysterio, Lizard, Electro, and Doctor Octopus.

As of right now, Drew Goddard (The Cabin in the Woods), who’s confirmed to write the Daredevil Netflix series, is set to write/direct The Amazing Spider-Man 4/Sinister Six. Alex Kurtzman (co-writer for The Amazing Spider-Man 2Star Trek Into Darkness) will be directing the Venom spin-off. Obviously, the two proposed films are years away, so it’s far too early for casting news. Unfortunately, with the expansion of the Spider-Man universe, it appears to be even more of a stretch for there to be one cohesive Marvel universe where Disney Marvel’s superheroes (The Avengers, et al) could coexist with the Sony Marvel (Spider-Man) and Fox Marvel (Fantastic Four, X-Men) universes. One day, true believers…
