Evil Dead 2 is still in the works, but Army of Darkness sequel is the priority
Dismay spread across Evil Dead fans earlier this week when rumors came out that co-writer of the 2013 Evil Dead remake, Rodo Sayagues, said that a sequel to the remake wouldn't be happening anymore. However, word has come out today that the statement was an unfortunate case of a translation error. Evil Dead director/co-writer Fede Alvarez has come out to say that the news was incorrect:
“Rodo meant we’re not actually making Evil Dead 2 right now because the priority is Sam [Raimi's] Army of Darkness 2. But the plan of making a sequel to our Evil Dead is very much alive.”
The news further confirms that progress is very much real for Army of Darkness 2. It also bodes well for those that were fans of the remake interested in seeing what happens to Mia and her story. Considering that both Evil Dead 2013 and Army of Darkness are in similar, yet alternate universes, it's easy to assume that each film will be treated separately a la Spider-Man and The Avengers. However, considering that the same people are behind both properties, there is potential for crossover.

Bruce Campbell further hints at an Army of Darkness sequel
With every major comic book convention or film festival, it's almost clockwork for Bruce Campbell (Evil Dead) to talk about the plans for an Army of Darkness sequel. At this week's Wizard World Nashville Comic Con, Campbell added more fuel to the rumormongering while talking to the audience. When asked straight up about the potential sequel, Campbell replied:
I just haven’t been racing to do it. Sam Raimi is just a little bit busy making the biggest movies in Hollywood. I use to be busy. Now I’m not. That’s why I’m here.
This mirrors some of the comments he made to me personally when I interviewed him at SXSW in March. During that interview, he and Evil Dead producer Robert Tapert said, "Sam's been talking about it. Rob and I are like, 'Show us a script.' [...] If we did another, Army of Darkness 2, which is really what it would be, it wouldn't be Evil Dead 4 because Army of Darkness changed its name a bit. So really, it would be Army of Darkness 2."
This is a bit of non-news, since Evil Dead and Army of Darkness fans have been teased about a sequel for years, it's just that Campbell is more open to talking about the film now. Before any confirmation can be made in terms of a script or studio, everything said about the film should be taken with a grain of salt. With that said, the likelihood of another Army of Darkness is becoming more and more realistic with every interview.
