[Mixtape] Animuse: "The Lucy List"

Animuse is back with what they describe as "a Frankenstein of loose tracks." #TheLucyList is precisely what it sounds like, a list of "looseys" or loose tracks without a home project to appear on. The mixtape is a sort of holdover for fans to keep happy with while Animuse works on their upcoming project, Transpire, due out later this year. Download here

James Blake: "Life 'Round Here Remix" (Feat. Chance The Rapper)

Back in March I did an interview with James Blake for a story in the Chicago Sun Times and asked him what he had heard coming out of Chicago recently. Knowing he had made a point to catch Chance The Rapper's set at the Lawless showcase in Austin for SXSW this year, his answer wasn't that surprising."The last thing I saw from Chicago was Chance The Rapper," said Blake. "I went to a gig at SXSW and he was playing and I got to meet him and say hello, he's a really nice guy."That brief familiarity resulted in a track from the pair, a remix of "Life 'Round Here" that dropped earlier today via Noisey.

Blake went on to say later in the interview, "I've always been in tune with music from Chicago because it's a place where great music seems to come out of every now and again. I think there's a hunger that Chicago has. I don't know whether I've got it right since I don't know it that well, but I know the music that comes from there and there just seems to be this sort of appetite that you don't normally find in other places. It's like the people from Chicago are hungry to do something, regardless of what it is. It's just an incredible, insatiable thing and they need it." After watching Chance do his thing over the past year and the swell of talent Chicago has seen recently, I'd say Blake is spot on. Check out the track below.

R. Kelly: "Genius"

It has certainly been one hell of a 2013 for Chicago's own R. Kelly. After rocking both Bonaroo and Pitchfork this year, Kells has been steadily pushing out music and visuals. The latest off his forthcoming Black Panties, "Genius," plays on similar themes to previous singles that have come out of late. It seems as though R. Kelly is looking out from the mountain after a long career, reminding himself of his greatness. For now, check out the song below.

[Video] The Whoevers on WGCI Morning Riot

One of the biggest gripes artists have had with the Chicago market over the years has stemmed from getting local radio play. WGCI has done a lot lately to dispel that problem, hosting several Chicagoland artists on their Morning Riot show, including Chance The Rapper and Lili K. Most recently, The Whoevers visited Tony Sculfield in the studio September 10  and luckily had a video person with them to capture everything. Check out the video for yourself below.

[Video] Nico Segal: "New Bisness"

Donnie Trumpet/Nico Genius/Nico Segal himself took some time while on tour overseas with Frank Ocean to shoot a video for "New Bisness," off his solo project, Donnie Trumpet. The video, shot and edited by Andy Singh, was actually shot on the last day of the California Live Tour in Melbourne, Australia. The former Kids These Days member gets his workout on in the hotel gym and spends some time strolling the halls in a fresh robe. If you haven't gotten the project yet, it's definitely recommended because, as Nico lays out in the video below he's "gonna be somebody."

Sydney A: "Where We Going" (Prod. by Mike Jaxx) Feat. Grade Aplus

Chicago's own Mike Jaxx is back with a new track with fellow Sydney A titled "Where We Going". The song, written and produced by Jaxx, features a verse from Grade Aplus alongside Sydney's sinewy, on point vocals that accent steady 90's-era production from Jaxx. Check the song, with free download below.

R. Kelly announces "Black Panties" release date

R.-Kelly

The Pied Piper of R&B music announced the release date for his latest album, Black Panties. At a listening party for the album in Atlanta, R. Kelly told those in attendance that the album would debut on November 11. If his Pitchfork performance was any inkling of what is to come from Kells, then it may be safe to say he's back. The video below from Revolt shows highlights from the listening party and an interview with R. Kelly.
