[RH Photos] Deltron 3030 at Emo's in Austin, TX (3/27/14)
Photography by Virgil Solis
Last Thursday, super hip hop group Deltron 3030 hit a packed Emo's in Austin. Kid Koala fit in as the opening act along with playing with the group, also playing during a small intermission. I was somewhat familiar with some of Kid Koala's work (mostly the Deltron 3030 stuff), but I was really impressed by his work ethic that night. The guy pretty much played the whole show. As with any Deltron 3030, show the crowd was packed with fans who knew every song from their catalog. I hadn't seen Del perform in over five years, and he did not disappoint. Del is what I would consider a real rap professional. Dude has been putting out music and performing for over 20 years. The super cool Dan The Automator also did not miss a step with playing a few instruments and beat pads. Dan kept his cool the first half of the show, walking back and forth on stage until he finally cracked a smile and showed his excitement, returning the energy back to the crowd. If you haven't seen Deltron perform, I suggest you do so next time they are in you town. Until then, check out some of my photos from the show below.
[LP] Del The Funky Homosapien: "Iller Than Most"
Del The Funky Homosapien has been making a resurgence of sorts over the past year. With his Deltron 3030 release, Event 2, and a tour that featured a 16 piece orchestra, complete with conductor, Del decided to roll things over into the new year with a spontaneous online release, Iller Than Most. Of the eleven song project, dropped at midnight yesterday, Del had this to say: "Lyrically ill but fun to listen to, nothing super heavy. I did the production on it as well." It's easy to tell he took care of the production, with a familiar funk-ified, otherworldly aesthetic that oozes Del through and through, and which is especially pronounced on the opening track when he chants "Take me to your leader!" Stream the latest from Del The Funky Homosapien below.

[Video] Deltron 3030: "Stardate" (feat. Joseph Gordon-Levitt)
It's been a very long time since the last proper Deltron 3030 album... 13 years, in fact. The hip hop supergroup consisting of rappin' ass rapper Del the Funky Homosapien, producer Dan the Automator, and DJ Kid Koala released the space epic Deltron 3030 back in May 2000. The self-titled album served as a bit of a precursor to the entire Gorillaz movement, as Dan and Del linked up with Blur's Damon Albarn on "Time Keeps on Slipping."
This upcoming October, the next Deltron 3030 album, Event II, will be released. Today, the first video for the album was released. Featuring actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Don Jon), "Stardate" serves as an intro to the album the same way "State of the Nation" did for the S/T album. Also revealed today were all of the features on Event II running through a list of both musicians and non-musicians, such as Rage Against the Machine's Zach de la Rocha, AWOLNATIN's Aaron Bruno, comedian David Cross (Arrested Development), actresses Amber Tamblyn (127 Hours), Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World), Damon Albarn, The Lonely Island, and more.
The album will follow a City Rising from the Ashes EP that features three songs from Event II on August 13. You can also listen to "City Rising from the Ashes" here. Deltron Zero's back!
