[Video] Hardwell: "Dare You" (Feat. Matthew Koma)

Dutch DJ sensation Hardwell was named Mixmag's No. 1 DJ in the world in 2013. That's quite an act to follow up, but the 25 year old EDM wunderkind is hard at work already this year, today dropping his video for the song "Dare You" featuring Matthew Koma. The video is an upbeat and soul-elevating mix of vocals and production, with Koma opening the songs singing, "We're a million lonely people, ". It is a freeing experience filled with mundane stares and a lot of empty space. The character's dream are realized, finally, at a Hardwell show. Of course. Check it all out for yourself and keep an eye on Hardwell as he makes a run at back-to-back major festival seasons.

Hardwell Releases "Dare You" Via Shazam

Dutch EDM artist Hardwell, recently named the world's No. 1 DJ by DJ Mag, broke new ground today as the first artist to release a song strictly through the music-id application Shazam. Listeners are prompted to "Shazam" a 20 second clip on Hardwell's Youtube page that will then unlock his latest single "Dare You" featuring songwriter Matthew Koma, exclusively on the Shazam app. It opens a new avenue for artists to reach fans with their music, as if that landscape wasn't pretty cluttered already. It should push forward the proliferation of corporate cross-promotions to subsidize label money. Check out the song below and for the full download, get your Shazam app out and hit here.

Today, the trio gets the remix treatment on their track "Live For The Night". The song gets re-arranged and done up by the talented pairing of Danny Avila and Deniz Koyu. Check it out for yourself below and pick it up on BeatPort.

EDC Chicago Generates $26.1 Million

There were complaints, concessions and for awhile it wasn't a sure thing that "Chicago" would host another Electric Daisy Carnival after the inaugural event, held this May in Joliet at the Joliet Motor Speedway, ran into some interference from the community. After announcing yesterday that the fest generated an estimated $26.1 million for the surrounding community, according to data released today in an economic impact analysis by Beacon Economics LLC, some feelings may have changed. There are few festivals like an EDC, which lives up to its name by featuring a plethora of rides, entertainment and euphoria outside of the traditional DJ sets. Strategically set an hour south of Chicago, so as to skirt the city's 10 PM noise curfew, the festival went late into the night, beginning at 4 PM and wrapping up half a day later at 4 AM which made for quite the marathon of EDM. The first night was marked by a 2 AM firework show that had people from surrounding town peppering their local police stations with angry phone calls, prompting organizers Insomnia Events to move the fireworks up to 10 and bump the sound down for the later sets. The rest of EDC Chicago went off with few hitches and the announcement of the stimulus it brought the south suburbs of Chicago should be reason enough for organizers and city officials to find some common ground for the 2014 edition.

[Album] GRiZ: "Rebel Era LP"

GRiZ has been one of the refreshing sounds in electronic dance music for awhile now. The Detroit native has built a steady following in the festival and dance scenes with his mash-up of contemporary electronic production and horn playing that is reminiscent of a Big Gigantic arrangement, while saving certain musical aesthetics to make GRiZ records wholly his own style. Last week, he released his latest album, Rebel Era LP, to glowing praise from many outlets. Today, he finally gets the RH treatment for his latest release. Check out a stream of the full project below, as well as a behind the scenes video from his national headlining tour and a personal message from GRiZ on Rebel Era LP, all below and catch GRiZ this weekend in Detroit and Chicago where he headlines a pair of Freaky Deaky shows with Danny Brown and Tokimonsta.

In a time…

In a time where words and phrases like the occupy movement, personal freedom, the NSA, riots, elections, and war are on the tips of everyone's tongues, I can feel a shift in global energy. This is a time where classism and competition is tearing a rift in society. A time where imperialist democratic capitalism is fighting its way to dominate cultures and seperate people into selfish consumers. A time where people are turning against the powers that be and are speaking out against these values. A time that is inspiring people to seek change. Its the time that we live in, an age that we created.

I wrote this record over the past year in many different states and phases. From tour busses, to bedroom studios, from green rooms full of friends and scenesters, to planes thousands of feet flying through the sky. I've met and worked with so many new people through the creation of this album and pushed my limits as a producer to create something challenging and dynamic. Taking every single moment that I wasn't on stage and dedicating it to developing ideas of sound; at times, left me breathless and laid out on the floor of my room with songs on repeat - anxious thoughts melting away into space.

But thats the thing. I've found that music sets me free. Its up to us to use that which is most compelling and manifest a new reality. One free of apathy. A world of compassion, empathy and cooperation. A world of action and of love.

This is Rebel Era.

Dani Deahl & Animale:"Thunderbolt"

This one will wake you up if you find yourself caught in a mid-day haze. The latest from Dani Deahl and Animale, two of the EDM scenes current flavors of the months (week?, year?). The pair of risers got together for "Thunderbolt," an aptly-appropriated name for a track that is the equivalent to a shot of espresso. The track was released via Steve Aoki's Dim Mak Records and can be found on the labels' New Noise Compliation Vol. 5.
