Alright, an post-SXSW Song of the Day is back with a ton of good tracks to get you through the hump of the week. Leading things off is Chance The Rapper's latest, "Home Studio", produced with his team, The Social Experiment in his California-based home studio. Chano also popped up on TDE-affiliate SZA's latest track, "Child's Play" which dropped the same day, alongside another familiar face in Vic Mensa who got on Asher Roth's latest, "Live Fast" off his upcoming project, RetroHash. [Songs of the Day] 3/6/14 (Feat. Mac DeMarco, Big K.R.I.T., St. Vincent & More)
Thursday brought about some new heat to warm our nasty March and leading things off we have a pair of tracks dedicated to another world. Along with the announcement of a "Game of Thrones" mixtape titled Catch The Throne, due out tomorrow came two tracks, Wale's "King Slayer" and Big Boi's "Mother of Dragons", stay posted for the rest of the tracklisting. Big K.R.I.T. continued his solid flow of new content by teaming up with Childish Major for another cinema-inspired track in "Wolf of Wall St.". Chuck Inglish teased his upcoming album with a very dope track with fellow Chicagoan Chance The Rapper for "Glam" which will wear out your repeat button in a hurry. A couple dance numbers got in the mix with Nick Nikon's "100 Deep" and a remix of M.I.A.'s "Y.A.L.A." anthem by Falcons. Mac DeMarco continued to prove why he's a rising star with his latest, "Brother" and St. Vincent once again showed she can do no wrong on "Del Rio". Columbia College's AEMMP Records released another track from their upcoming album, La Collection, produced entirely by C-Sick. The track, "All Love" features Taylor Bennett, NoNameGypsy & Nick Astro. [Album] Big Gigantic: "The Night Is Young"
Dominic Lalli and Jeremy Salken make up the eclectic electronic dance music duo Big Gigantic. The pair have made name for themselves over the better part of the last five years since entering the national scene on the back of their talented, yet still developing aesthetic of mixing Jazz and Electronic sensibilities coherently into a single production. Where the pair's debut project, Fire It Up comes with glitchy electronic hits and seemingly forced horn runs, their latest project is anything but. Polished over incessant touring schedules and packed festival lineups every year, Big Gigantic has evolved into one of the most entertaining live electronic acts in the world. Forget the smoke, light stick cannons and 3D renderings of acts like Excision, Datsik and the like; what sets Big Gigantic apart and allows them to live up to their name is the innate ability to be different through instrumentation.
The first time seeing Lalli induce a drop with his saxophone, accented by Salken on drums live is an almost truly out of body experience. The Night Is Young very well may be the duo's best offering to date. Building on production lines established on the last project, Nocturnal, it is a full step up from where they were a year ago at this time. On "Blue Dream" you can hear pieces of "Rise and Shine", but with a distinctly different play on notes that takes it to a different place sonically. Sounds are tighter, the horns and electronic hits feel in tune with one another. If their debut project was electronic with a sprinkle of Jazz, this latest offering is a more equal split of tendencies. Adding Cherub on the first single off the project, aptly titled "The Night is Young" is the perfect collaboration for the pair and one that I am personally glad is out in the world. The project was released both as a free download via their website and on iTunes and Lalli and Salken announced a nationwide tour (Tickets) in tune with the project's release. Check it all out below.

[Mixtape] Flying Lotus: "Ideas+drafts+loops"
The holiday spirit is heating up as the end of the month creeps closer everyday. Keeping with the theme of this time of the year, super-producer extraordinaire Flying Lotus dropped a heaping of new material. Casually floating 24 remixes, un-heard cuts, tracks and beats that didn't quite make the cut for his upcoming project, a follow up to his latest release, Until The Quiet Comes, FlyLo set the bar for his next official album. Of the discarded tracks arranged together as Ideas+drafts+loops are workings with Earl Sweatshirt, Thundercat, Mapei, Viktor Vaughn and DJ Mehdi, as well as an out of this world remix of Kanye West's "Black Skinhead". For a lack of poetic prose here, Flying Lotus is just awesome, and the fact that he would opt to drop such a collection of work on a whim, for free, speaks volumes not only about him as a person, but also about the music he has cooking up. If he's confident enough to drop these, what could he possibly have in store? Who knows. For now, enjoy the smorgasbord of new music to get you through those cold winter days. Download link below and stream of FlyLo's "Black Skinhead" remix below, as well.

[Video] Daft Punk: "Instant Crush" (feat. Julian Casablancas)
Daft Punk has been slowly rolling out visuals for their 2013 hit album Random Access Memories. Today, the pair dropped the latest, a video for "Instant Crush" featuring The Strokes' Julian Casablancas. The video has a very Flashdance feel to it that mimics the 80s synth vibes of the track and follows Casablancas on a sort of museum love story that is thwarted by the moving of one of the statues. Plenty of spotlights, bad haircuts and leather jackets and torn jeans to go around.
Ever see a Daft Punk performance, video, commercial or the like and wonder what the hell is under those helmets? The dance music DJs protective head gear has evolved over the years in dramatic fashion and Electronic Dance Music publication MixMag has all the answers you could ever want about the iconic coverings that Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo are almost perpetually seen wearing. Some of the notes from the video include mentions that Homem-Christo's helmet is made by the same people who invented the Jumbotron. Pretty heavy stuff. Check out both videos here below.

[Album] Pretty Lights: "A Color Map Of The Sun Remixes"
Earlier this year, 32 year old electronic dance music artist Pretty Lights released his first full-length studio album comprised fully of his own self-produced tracks. The project, which was released on July 2, charted at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 upon its debut and solidifying the DJ as a real artist to be dealt with amongst the greater music landscape. Never one to be finished with anything, given the intrinsically infinite amount of options available to DJs today to distort sounds, Pretty Lights decided to remix his entire album with the help of some friends.
EDM high-flyer GRiZ takes a spin on a few tracks, most notably adding his unique, soulful horns and crafty mixing to "Vibe Vendetta", which is the perfect complement to the original. Pretty Lights also taps EDM big names such as Datsik, Opiuo and heRobust to round out the re-worked music. All in all, the second take on the project is an impressive building on earlier work and progresses each track to a sonically different area than they originally occupied. Check out the preview stream of the project below and be sure to scoop the full release, due out December 10.

[Album] GRiZ: "Rebel Era LP"
GRiZ has been one of the refreshing sounds in electronic dance music for awhile now. The Detroit native has built a steady following in the festival and dance scenes with his mash-up of contemporary electronic production and horn playing that is reminiscent of a Big Gigantic arrangement, while saving certain musical aesthetics to make GRiZ records wholly his own style. Last week, he released his latest album, Rebel Era LP, to glowing praise from many outlets. Today, he finally gets the RH treatment for his latest release. Check out a stream of the full project below, as well as a behind the scenes video from his national headlining tour and a personal message from GRiZ on Rebel Era LP, all below and catch GRiZ this weekend in Detroit and Chicago where he headlines a pair of Freaky Deaky shows with Danny Brown and Tokimonsta.
