Ivan Reitman Shoots Down All-Male Ghostbusters Reboot Rumors
Around the same time the Paul Feig Ghostbusters reboot was announced, there were rumors that another Ghostbusters film would be produced, directed by Captain America: The Winter Soldier's Joe and Anthony Russo with Channing Tatum and Chris Pratt rumored to star. The rumors were further perpetrated by claims that original Ghostbusters director made in regards to the "other" Ghostbusters film:
The second film has a wonderful idea that builds on that. Drew will start writing and the hope is to be ready for the Russo Brothers’ next window next summer to shoot, with the movie coming out the following year. It’s just the beginning of what I hope will be a lot of wonderful movies.
However, Reitman has recently come out to shoot down any and all rumors of the project with a statement:
There has been a lot of excitement recently about what is happening with the Ghostbusters franchise. As the producer of the new Ghostbusters film, I feel the need to clarify. There is only one new Ghostbusters movie and that is the Paul Feig directed version coming next July, presently filming and going fantastically. The rest is just noise.
It's unfortunate that Reitman mentioned any talk of a second Ghostbusters reboot film, especially after the mixed reception of the all-female Ghostbusters reboot. At the same time, this is a good vote of confidence for Feig's project and everybody involved with it. Does this mean we won't ever see a Tatum and Pratt Ghostbusters film? Of course not, but it would most likely depend on how Feig's film performs.
We'll see how the quest for more Ghostbusters plays out over time.

Sony Announces Another Ghostbusters Sequel
Yesterday, Sony announced their plans to expand on the upcoming Ghostbusters renaissance with a supplementary film that will feature an all-male cast. The recently-announced film will feature an all-star crew working on the film: Joe and Anthony Russo (Captain America: The Winter Soldier) will direct; Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3) will write the script; and Channing Tatum and his partners will produce the film with Tatum in consideration to also star in the film.
In addition to the film announcement, Ghostbusters vets Ivan Reitman and Dan Aykroyd will form a new production company, adequately named Ghostcorps, alongside Sony to expand the franchise into other media to heighten the brand's potential. In an exclusive conversation with Deadline, Reitman explained Ghostcorps' overall plan:
“We want to expand the Ghostbusters universe in ways that will include different films, TV shows, merchandise, all things that are part of modern filmed entertainment. This is a branded entertainment, a scary supernatural premise mixed with comedy. Paul Feig’s film will be the first version of that, shooting in June to come out in July 2016. He’s got four of the funniest women in the world, and there will be other surprises to come. The second film has a wonderful idea that builds on that. Drew will start writing and the hope is to be ready for the Russo Brothers’ next window next summer to shoot, with the movie coming out the following year. It’s just the beginning of what I hope will be a lot of wonderful movies.”
While I'm all for more Ghostbusters films, it seems like this announcement, especially so soon after the confirmation of Paul Feig's all-female Ghostbusters reboot, is a knee-jerk reaction to adhere to the outcry that followed the initial Ghostbusters reboot announcement from a very small, but vocal, percentage. Morever, the announcement was also tied to former Sony executive Amy Pascal's move to the production side of the industry, which paved the way for Ghostcorps to be established. Obviously, details are very sparse about the "guy" Ghostbusters film, so we don't know how it'll support and build off of Feig's film, but it doesn't allow the latter to get time to breathe and gain hype. Instead, I fear that Feig's vision for his Ghostbusters film will be overshadowed by yesterday's announcement.
Current rumors point at yet another shared universe with Tatum and Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy) starring. However, given the failure that was Sony's attempt to create a universe around their The Amazing Spider-Man universe, Sony might not be the best studio to go to for such plans. However, with a core that features well-established players like the Russos and Pearce, the prospect of a large Ghostbusters universe is intriguing.
What do you think? Do you feel this new Ghostbusters announcement will overshadow Feig's Ghostbusters film? Let us know!

Paul Feig Shares Ghostbusters Vision, Defends All-Female Cast
Despite the shoddy CGI effects, Ghostbusters is a timeless classic that is just as funny now as it was upon its release. Fan appreciation of the franchise has been at an all-time high this year, given the film's 30th anniversary, as well as the concrete developments surrounding the upcoming third film after years of false starts and never-ending rumors. As it stands now, Paul Feig (Freaks and Geeks, Bridesmaids) will be directing a Ghostbusters reboot with intentions of having an all-female cast of Ghostbusters.
Speaking with Empire Online (as transcribed by Comic Book Movie), Feig shared his vision for the upcoming film, namely why he prefers to reboot the series rather than film a direct sequel to the previous two films, stating:
I have too much respect for the original one [to do a sequel...] There's also the feeling that once the world knows ghosts and has seen them busted on such a large scale, they run the risk of becoming pedestrian. There's something fun about introducing our world, which has never seen ghosts to the phenomenon of ghosts. I love origin stories and to introduce new characters.
Furthermore, Feig and co-writer Katie Dipold (The Heat) actually want to embrace the horror side of the plot, with Feig explaining, "I want ours to be scarier than the original, to be quite honest. Katie Dipold and I are so focused on wanting to do scary comedy. We don't want to hold back."
Finally, Feig addressed the "gimmick" of having an all-female cast:
A lot of people accused it of being a gimmick. I guess I can see the cynics’ view of it, but for me I just love working with funny women. People said, ‘Why don’t you do a mix?’ I’m just more interested in the idea of lady Ghostbusters. It’s the way my brain works.
The framework for Feig's entry in the Ghostbusters franchise is solid on paper, with a direction that I think most modern moviegoers will enjoy. However, without a concrete plot or cast to speak upon, we'll just have to play the waiting game to see exactly how enjoyable (or otherwise) the film will be.

[Dream Cast] Five Actresses Who Should Be Considered for Ghostbusters
The rumors of an all-female Ghostbusters reboot have been around for months now, but with Peter Venkman himself, Bill Murray, supporting the idea and even offering his own cast suggestions, I think the possibility could be very real. After all, we're experiencing a new wave of comedy films that prove that female-driven comedies can be successful both critically and commercially. While I absolutely love Murray's suggestions of Kristen Wiig, Emma Stone, Linda Cardellini, and Melissa McCarthy, five other actresses instantly came to mind.
Read on as I suggest my dream cast for an all-female Ghostbusters reboot.
Gallery 1988's Ghostbusters 30th Anniversary Pieces Now Online
Ghostbusters is one of those films that just stands the test of time. Sure, the SFX might be a little outdated, but the 1984 classic featured an outstanding lineup, a legitimate sense of horror, taught us not to cross the stream, and featured the greatest film theme song known to mankind. To commemorate the 30th anniversary of the film, Gallery 1988, one of the premier pop-culture art galleries, put together a traveling art show featuring various types of art inspired by Ghostbusters. While the Ghostbusters 30th Anniversary Art Exhibit finished its New York run last month, it's currently on display at Gallery 1988 itself in LA, followed by a run in Chicago next month and an appearance at the San Diego Comic Con.
While some of the pieces have come up here and there across the internet, /Film is the exclusive destination for all 150 pieces from the exhibit. While experiencing everything would be better in person, checking the pieces out online is great for those who unfortunately can't see them in person. I've included five of my personal favorite pieces in a gallery below, but you should check out the entire collection on /Film. Information for Gallery 1988's Ghostbusters 30th Anniversary Art Exhibit pop-ups are below, as well.

Help make a Ghostbusters LEGO set a reality
Lego Cuusoo is a submission site for Lego hobbyists to put their creations up in hopes of their sets becoming official Lego projects. The premise is simple: Once a project has over 10,000 supporters, Lego reviews the submission to determine whether or not they should make a series out of them. If the project is cleared, the creator gets 1% of royalties, which may seem like a paltry number, but anybody who's made money from their art can tell you that any amount of money made from your own creations is one of the most gratifying things in the world.
Last month, a Lego Cuusoo project for a Back to the Future set was officially announced by Lego to become their next set. The next movie-themed Lego set could be Ghostbusters... with your help! To commemorate the 30th anniversary of Ghostbusters' release, Brent Waller has submitted his Ghostbusters-themed project for review. The set, which you can see in both video and picture form below, features Lego versions of Peter Venkman (Bill Murray), Ray Stantz (Dan Aykroyd), Egon Spengler (Harold Ramis), and Winston Zeddemore (Ernie Hudson), as well as Slimer. However, the highlight of the set is a Lego Ecto-1.
I'd support this project solely for the joy having a Lego Bill Murray would bring me.
