[Trailer] Prince Avalanche

http://youtu.be/ewpjHDZzT7A

Prince Avalanche serves as writer/director David Gordon Green's return to the independent comedy drama genre. Following his last directed film, The SitterPrince Avalanche stars Paul Rudd (I Love You, Man) and Emile Hirsch (Into the Wild) as Alvin and his girlfriend's brother, Lance, respectively, during a summer spent painting traffic lines on a highway. While the two don't initially get together, they begin to warm up to one another as time passes. It's definitely a character-driven film that balances drama with comedy.

Don't let Green's recent films fool you: his dramatic films (UndertowSnow Angels) are a lot better than his comedy films(Pineapple ExpressThe Sitter). And while Rudd is primarily known as a comedy actor, he definitely has the chops for drama; on the same hand, Hirsch's best role to date was in his award-winning film, Into the Wild.

Prince Avalanche should definitely be on your "to-watch" lists when it hits theaters on August 9th.

[Mixtape] The Hood Internet: "The Mixtape Volume Seven"

Somehow, The Hood Internet's latest mixtape, The Mixtape Volume Seven, slid past us. The new collection of mashups by the Chicago production duo features 25 tracks mixing up a plethora of artists, including Justin Timberlake, Daft Punk, Danny Brown, Chance the Rapper, Action Bronson, Frank Ocean, and Purity Ring. For those unfamiliar with The Hood Internet, they mix and mash hip hop/R&B tracks with songs from Indie Rock bands, resulting in an insanely catchy and infectious number of songs.

Some personal favorites from The Mixtape Volume Seven include "Grown Up Has No Trigger" (Danny Brown X Dirty Projectors), "Double Talm" (Chance the Rapper X Girl Unit), "Lucky Suit" (Justin Timberlake X Jay-Z X Daft Punk), and "Pyramidspeak" (Purity Ring X Frank Ocean). Keep in mind: This is all coming from somebody who doesn't really like dance music; The Hood Internet is that good.

You can stream the mixtape below or download it here.

Listen to the first 12 songs of Netherfriends' 50 Songs 50 States project

It's been awhile since we've had Netherfriends on Ruby Hornet when the Netherfriends X Chandler London X Mig Mora track, "Numero Uno," dropped in time for Valentine's Day. Since then, I can honestly admit I've played the song an unhealthy amount of times since (as well as keeping the accompanying cartoon video on repeat).

Yesterday, he put up the first 12 songs of his 50 Songs 50 States album for streaming on his Bandcamp, with an extra added incentive of making them downloadable with a pre-order of the full album. The ambitious project found Netherfriends touring across the country from April 2010 - April 2011 with the intent of playing in and recording one song in every state, no matter the venue or location of the studio (or sometimes lack thereof). As if the project wasn't already teeming with awesomeness, an interactive map of the United States is used to share background information for every song released. I wholeheartedly recommend checking out the project on Netherfriends' website solely for this reason.

Hopefully by now, you've already gone and pre-ordered 50 Songs 50 States from his Bandcamp. $7 for the initial 12 songs (with the remaining tracks to be released on July 4th) is a steal, especially given how great the songs sound. I'm sure you can hold off that cheeseburger and fries for one day.

Kids These Days: Transition

Kids These Days

"At the end of the day, we believe in this s**t more than life itself."

A year ago, Kids These Days were a buzzing band of high school students. Today, they are on the verge of national breakout success, racking up features in outlets such as MTV, and The New York Times.  In this new RH video, KTD's Vic Mensa, Liam Cunningham, and Nico Segal talk about the band's transition to full-time musicians, and the commitment they've made to the music, and most importantly, to each other.

[Video] The Black Lips: "New Direction"

Pitchfork

The Black Lips turned in one of the best rock albums of 2011 thus far with their latest, Arabia Mountain. Today they a new video for "New Direction" off said LP.  The video is directed Jake Burghart and features the band soaring through space, playing in the middle of a tornado, and flying over mountains.  Pretty dope.

Check out our interview with Ian St. Pe of The Black Lips.
