Oddisee: "Hustle Off"

Oddisee

"Sometimes you gotta turn your hustle off... and slow your speed."

No days off is a common modus of operandi for many in the music business, from artists, producers, engineers, fucking journalist/djs dudes that also teach at Columbia... While I love what I do and consider myself very lucky to be able to pay my rent doing what I love, I really agree with Oddisee's sentiments on his new record, "Hustle Off".  Sometimes you just gotta unplug for a second and refresh in order to step back into grind mode.  The song is off Oddisee's forthcoming alum, People Hear What They See, which drops June 5th via Mello Music Group (pre-order on iTunes).

Check out Oddisee's new song, "Hustle Off" as well as his thoughts on the album below.

"This album is about influence, inspiration, perception & reality. Every song was written in an outside environment, so that I could observe the subjects that would become my subject matter. All too often in Hip Hop, reality is limited to that of the artists own, actual experiences. People Hear What They See is my attempt to liberate the MC from those constraints & allow reality to be penned other than my own. Listening to congressmen & lawyers converse on the steps of the supreme court inspired ‘American Greed’, Watching a couple argue over the phone in a bar inspired ‘Maybes’. By having a visual representation of my subject matter, my hopes are that the listener will see them through the worlds & melodies of my songs."

What The F*&k?!: Papoose and "Donk Jumping"

Papoose`

Disclaimer: The ideas expressed by Angry Anthony are his. We just think they're funny...

Remember when Papoose used to be this promising new artist that was on the brink of becoming the next big thing? Then all of a sudden he vanished into the abyss. Well, apparently he is ready for a come back. He want's to reclaim his spot, he says. Well, Papoose, I don't know what the f**k you were thinking when you chose "Donk Jumping" as a single. Actually, as I was listening to it, I thought maybe you had part of your brain removed during your leave of absence. The lyrics in this hunk-of-s**t song sound like they were ghostwritten by Bangs and 50 Tyson. I don't know how you went from being the guy who was reviving real hip hop, to a clown with a bunch of B-List video hoes by a pool in the weakest pool party video ever. That spoof video for "Booty Shots" was better than this! I get the method of promoting your new project with lots of ass, but dog... not like this. I would expect some garbage like this from Soulja Boy or Riff Raff, but you? Shame, Papoose!

Wale ft. Big Sean: "Slight Work" Prod. Diplo

Diplo with Wale and Big Sean? Well I will not complain at all on that one. I feel like this song would be even better if Cudi got thrown on this as well. Hell if Cudi could get some Diplo production, hell if Cudi would rap. But back to the song at hand, Wale has his new project "Ambition" coming up and it will mark to most of whether or not he took the right turn joining Ross and MMG. So far to me the tracks he has been putting out have either been fire or a pooper. This one was wavering the line but the Big Sean comes in and gives me something that I wanted. I guess I'm a little sour on Wale but it is hard to fall in love with an artist that changes his style every year. I hope he sticks with MMG and we can at least all get used to who Wale is.

Ludacris ft. Big K.R.I.T.: "I'm On Fire"

Dang, it is great to see Big K.R.I.T. popping up everywhere these days. It is also see Ludacris get on some smooth sounding southern sweetness with K.R.I.T. and not some Battle Of The Sexes wackness. These two linked up once in the past on the remix to K.R.I.T.'s track "Country Shit" which also included Bun B. "I'm On Fire" is great and gives me some hope on how this upcoming Ludacris mixtape is going to turn out.

Kids These Days: Transition

Kids These Days

"At the end of the day, we believe in this s**t more than life itself."

A year ago, Kids These Days were a buzzing band of high school students. Today, they are on the verge of national breakout success, racking up features in outlets such as MTV, and The New York Times.  In this new RH video, KTD's Vic Mensa, Liam Cunningham, and Nico Segal talk about the band's transition to full-time musicians, and the commitment they've made to the music, and most importantly, to each other.

[Video] Joker: "The Vision" feat Jessie Ware & Freddie Gibbs

Freddie Gibbs

"Bruce Lee with pants saggin'"

I keep waiting for Three 6 Mafia to jump out on this joint, as it sounds eerily similar to their "Stay Fly". Freddie Gibbs will do just fine though, and Jessie Ware shines on "The Vision", the title track from Joker's upcoming LP. Watch it below. Also remember that Freddie Gibbs will release his own LP, Cold Day In Hell, on Halloween.

[Video] Casey Veggies: "I Be Over S**t"

Casey Veggies

Casey Veggies comes through with a video for his concept record, "I Be Over S**t".  Over a laid back beat, Casey nonchalantly raps about the things that he is now no longer concerned with.  The list includes ex-girlfriends, his phonebook, and getting all dressed up to perform.  I can dig it.  Casey is re-releasing his last project, Sleeping In Class. That deluxe drops tomorrow.
