Facebook rolling out Graph Search today
The next step in Facebook's evolution will be introduced today as the social network will begin rolling out its new "Graph Search" feature for US-based accounts. Backed by Microsoft's Bing search engine, Graph Search is touted as being a much faster and more intricate search option for the site. Users can, for example, search "Photos of friends from July 2013," then the results will show a grid of the user's friends' photos tagged in July 2013. Search results will also include normal Bing results, giving the social network an actual search engine for users to utilize.
Of course, with such a powerful search engine comes some privacy concerns. As such, users will be reminded to update their privacy settings to ensure everything they want to keep hidden will, in fact, continue to be kept hidden. Graph Search will be rolling out for Facebook's web browsers with a mobile update sure to follow in the near future. However, do you think the new feature will be enough to keep existing Facebook users interested?

First official poster for Spike Lee's Oldboy remake
In all my years of writing about films, I think one of the most controversial stories I've covered is Spike Lee's American remake of the Korean classic, Oldboy. Part of director Park Chan-wook's Vengeance Trilogy, the 2003 adaptation of the manga of the same name captivated Korean cinema fans and film buffs alike with its tale of Oh Dae-su's 15 years of captivity and his revenge-driven journey to discover who ruined his life.
While Spike Lee is a talented director, many balked at the notion that he would be able to do the original film justice. The film's first official poster showcasing star Josh Brolin (No Country for Old Men) escaping from a suitcase much like Oh Dae-su's in the original, albeit within a large field rather than the roof of a building. Various outlets are reporting that the poster is an actual still from the film and not a Photoshopped composite. The full poster, which you can see below, also features a tagline of sorts that reads, "Ask not why you were imprisoned. Ask why you were set free." Interesting.
I still have my reservations with the adaptation, but I'll keep an open mind as more information and footage will be coming out soon leading up to Oldboy's theatrical release this October.

Don Mattrick breaks up with Xbox, enters an affair with Zynga
Talk about jumping from one sinking ship to another, former Microsoft President of the Interactive Business Don Mattrick recently was named the CEO for internet gaming company, Zynga. Mattrick's departure from Microsoft comes immediately after the scrutiny that faced the Xbox One, resulting in the company backtracking from all of the proposed, pro-DRM/anti-consumer features the gaming console was set to implement. Announced earlier today was Mattrick's replacement, Julie Larson-Green, who is currently acting as the Corporate Vice President of Windows.
Of course, Mattrick might be facing a different kind of problem as Zynga is currently facing its own problems as the once-popular gaming company is teetering on the edge of bankruptcy. As the new incoming CEO of Zynga, he will be replacing Zynga founder Mark Pincus, who himself will be stepping down to become a chairman for the company. It'll be interesting to see if Mattrick's past successes with the Xbox (Xbox One shenanigans notwithstanding) can carry over to a vastly different platform. Wall Street at least has faith in Mattrick's influence, as stock for the company closed at a 10% increase.
Mattrick must really thrive on facing problems. It's too early to expect much from Zynga this early in their new direction, but considering the whole online/Facebook gaming fad has all but passed, I don't foresee Mattrick's attachment being enough to bring Zynga back to the level it was at previously.

Is The Jetsons film adaptation Kanye West's next project?
Back in January 2012, Yeezus himself tweeted about being named the "creative director" of a potential film adaptation of the popular Hanna-Barbera cartoon, The Jetsons. I personally thought the news would be great, since Kanye's style has always been aimed towards the future. After all, with such a liberal title as "creative director," Kanye wouldn't necessarily be involved as directly as, say... the film's actual director. Two screenwriters, Van Robichaux and Evan Susser, were hired to work on a script last year. Since then, not much else has been said about the film.
However, during press rounds for Yeezus, The Playlist caught an aside in a recent Kanye interview where he mentioned his continued attachment for the film. Producer Denise DiNovi quickly cleared up Kanye's role with the film, stating:
He’s not the creative director on the movie, but I loved his passion for 'The Jetsons.' He gets the whole thing about the future that never was. He sees us living on a precipice of technology – cameras in your eye, your mind as a remote control to fire lasers – and wonders how things are going to break, for good or for bad.
So what does this mean, exactly? Basically, it seems as if Kanye would help guide the style and tone of the film. With his attachment, he could also have control over the soundtrack; who knows, Kanye's next release could double as a soundtrack for The Jetsons? With his collaborations with Daft Punk over the years, as well as the robot duo's experience in Hollywood with the Tron: Legacy soundtrack, speculation can't help but brew for a Kanye X Daft Punk Jetsons soundtrack.

Rumor: Dwayne Johnson might lay the smackdown on Terminator 5
With the original Terminator himself, Arnold Schwarzenegger, returning for Terminator 5, excitement was already high for the popular sci-fi franchise. However, rumors have begun to swirl that the upcoming sequel just might be getting even bigger. According to a few of the WWE Examiner's sources, a script is being produced specifically with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson in mind for a role. While nothing has been confirmed, as words from anonymous sources should always be taken with a grain of salt, an action blockbuster pairing Schwarzenegger and Johnson together would practically print money. Terminator 5 could function as a passing of the torch as Johnson has proven his ability to both revive and drive floundering franchises (re: G.I. Joe and Fast & Furious).
Furthermore, a few potential plot details have leaked out that could counter my worries about Schwarzenegger playing a Terminator. The aforementioned source claims the new plot takes place during the 40s and 50s with Schwarzenegger's character playing a savior character of sorts with some connection to the Connor family. It's his character's bravado and heroism that the future Skynet models their Terminator line after. Theoretically, Schwarzenegger would be playing a Terminator in the sense that his character would be the precursor for the killing machines.
There's still plenty of time before production begins on Terminator 5, and while all of this is just rumors and speculation, it would be great for the franchise and movie audiences if The Rock does join the film. Imagine The Rock and Arnold Schwarzenegger in a fist fight. Oh man...

Instagram announces Video on Instagram, drops mic in the process
Earlier this week, rumors spread that a new Instagram feature would be announced that would focus on new video functionality. Today, the rumors were confirmed that Instagram will incorporate a video service within the application. Available right now for both iPhones and Androids, the new Video on Instagram is very similar to the popular video sharing service, Vine, but with a few exclusive features.
Video on Instagram features 13 new filters exclusively for video (which resemble the typical Instagram filters, just rebranded under new names). The function also eclipses Vine's six-second capacity with 15 second clips. Also available is the ability to choose a cover photo from your video clips. Video on Instagram also allows users to "rewind" their clips in case a shot didn't come out properly, which further separates it from Vine. However, the biggest feature announced is what the company is calling "cinematic stabilization," which obviously helps stabilize shaky hands and scenes.
Videos will be featured on the Instagram news feed like normal, displaying the cover photo chosen, but with a little video camera in the corner to help distinguish it from typical Instagram photos. As I was telling Virgil a few moments ago, this could lead to shenanigans where users could use a false cover photo to hide video rambunctiousness. Prepare for the pranks! Again, Video in Instagram is available right now, so get those videos going.
