[RH First Glance] Passerines

Chicago-based band Passerines have had an eventful year. The indie rock outfit, led by frontman/artistic leader Timothy Young, Passerines create music that is sonically beautiful and uniquely unafraid to test and experiment with every chord and note. It's some parts Dirty Projectors, with the genuinely creative guitar and Thom Yorke, as they foray into electronic production as well. The summer saw them work out several artistic directions before settling on one, working horns into the mix and finding where exactly the sound fit. Young is a quiet, careful artist, wholly invested in his craft and it comes through in the music he produces. Currently working on their upcoming album Romancer, Young and co. shot a video of a live performance of the first single off the project, "Jo". Check out the video, shot by Jack Mayer, below and catch Passerines live this weekend at the Elastic Arts Foundation October 26th with with neo-classical/chamber pop groups, the Happy Maladies, and Baby Cleo.

[Video] Azealia Banks: "ATM Jam"

Azealia Banks' Pharrel Williams-produced single "ATM Jam" got a video treatment with a colorful affair courtesy of director Rony Alwin. Give it a look for yourself below.

[Video] Robert Glasper Experiment: "Calls" (Feat. Jill Scott)

Robert Glasper and Jill Scott teamed up for a whole heaping of soul on the video for the pair's song "Calls". The video, set in a 1950s vibe, features Scott singing about relationships and commitment. Not exactly earth-shattering content matter for either, but it is Jill Scott and Robert Glasper, so take a listen.

[Video] Aaron Cohen: "My Mother and My Music"

We have the latest from Seattle MC Aaron Cohen, a video for "My Mother and My Music" off his upcoming project, Potential Fans. He's got plenty of those, based off his steady following and solid ability with the mic. The video, shot by "Purple Swag" director Jason Ano, features the man with one of the best beards in hip-hop in an ambient setting, which matches the frenetic, steady track. Check out the track and video below and stay glued to RH for more on Cohen coming soon.

[Video] Jamal Science: "Simply Amazin"

Jamal Science keeps it fresh in "Simply Amazin," the first single being pushed alongside his signing to Molemen Records. The Chicago emcee spits crisp rhymes over production by Panik at a local skate-park while director Sense Hernandez captures the moment with his keen sense of scenery. You can watch the video below and support Jamal by copping the single on iTunes here.

[Video] Prince: "Breakfast Can Wait"

Well, Prince is back with a new video for his song, "Breakfast Can Wait" off the alleged upcoming album, Plectrum Electrum. The video itself doesn't feature Prince at all, save for the female impersonator that does a pretty convincing Prince look, mustache and all. By playing on Chappelle's Show jokes paired with craftful choreography and a decent storyline to create a story that appeals to a wide range of fans from several generations. Prince is alive, check him (her) out below.

Disclosure's new video pulled

Earlier today, English electronic duo Disclosure released a video for their song, "Help Me Lose My Mind" off their latest album, Settle. Pretty basic, right? Wrong. The video was quickly pulled from the internet by the duo's record label, PMR, for referencing drugs in the video. Yeah, weird to mention drugs with a song that deals with partying and having a good time with little responsibility. C'mon now PMR, what did you think? Below is an excerpt from the record label's Tumblr page:

The video for Disclosure's new single "Help Me Lose My Mind" was revealed this morning and as with previous Disclosure videos, it was about the connection of people having a good time, something that Disclosure want associated with their music and what we hope people have done when they've seen the band live or while listening to their music. Unfortunately the video has received a few comments referencing the use of drugs within the video.

PMR feel very strongly against the glamorisation of drugs in any capacity and as such we have made the decision to remove the video.

[Video] Janelle Monae: "Prime Time" (Feat. Miguel)

Janelle Monae and Miguel made a splash with their song, "Prime Time" off of Monae's latest album, Electric Lady. The pair released the visual for the album, a highly conceptual video that is a continuation on a common theme throughout her most recent release. Read the statement below along with the video itself.

"PrimeTime is a love story based on the early adventures of Cindi Mayweather (Janelle Monáe) and her first love Joey Vice (Miguel.) The Emotion Picture gives a glimpse at Cindi's humble beginnings as a "cyber-server" at the Electric Sheep nightclub, a syn bar serving high-class "show droids" to the rich and lonely in a dangerous section of Metropolis known as Slop City. Incidentally, the innovative cybersoul music played at the club directly impacted Cindi, and she began singing and performing her own innovative compositions a short time after quitting this assignment. In addition, Cindi became determined to change the public perception of what an electric lady could be, dream and aspire to after working in the dismal conditions at the club." -via Pitchfork
