The Cults

Madeline Follin and Brian Oblivion are Cults.  It’s strange being in an era where a band can be famous before they actually make an album.  There are so many folks looking for the next big thing that every band gets the once over before they even have a chance to figure out what they’re doing.  If you didn’t hear the mp3 before the first single then you’re too late.  I don’t mean to disparage the current system, in fact I almost love it.  We ask a band to give us something before they get thrown into the studio.  It’s the resurgence of the single and the 7″ and the EP.  Call me pleased; in the era of short attention spans there’s nothing wrong with a little brevity.

Cults fall firmly into that vein, a band discovered before they had anything to discover.  It doesn’t mean they have nothing to offer however, “Go Outside” is a beautiful and airy pop song builds space with a cavernous vocal and a little glockenspiel.  This is the song you want to listen to while laying on the grass looking up at the sky contemplating vastness.  Now onto the full length musical soldiers, your moment in the sun calls.

You can get the full Cults 7″ on their bandcamp site http://cults.bandcamp.com/.
