Last week, Joss Whedon surprised the Tribeca Film Festival crowd in New York by announcing his latest scripted film, In Your Eyes, would be made available online following its festival premiere for only $5. As Alex put it, it’s like Whedon never sleeps, going from prepping The Avengers to writing, directing, editing, and producing Much Ado About Nothing during The Avengers‘ production to developing ABC’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. to preparing The Avengers: Age of Ultron. During all of this work (plus other small Marvel-related gigs over the past few years), Whedon was also able to finish the script for In Your Eyes and executive produce the film. Pretty intense, right?

The trailer for In Your Eyes introduces us to two strangers played by Zoe Kazan (Ruby Sparks) and Michael Stahl-David (Cloverfield), a housewife in New England and an ex-con in New Mexico, respectively. Somehow, they develop a psychic connection between one another despite never actually meeting. Before long, they begin to connect to one another, truly embodying the old adage “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder” in a very, very literal sense.

Reviews for the film have been mixed, but the quirky, fantastical twist on the romance genre is enough to pique my interest. If you’re in the same boat as me, you can rent the film for a 72-hour period for $5 exclusively from the film’s website.
