Director Peter Berg (Friday Night LightsHancock) will be further exploring the themes of brotherhood and camaraderie with his next film, Lone Survivor. Based on the true stories written in former Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell’s memoir, Lone Survivor: The Eyewitness Account of Operation Redwing and the Lost Heroes of SEAL Team 10Lone Survivor follows a Navy SEAL team led by Mark Wahlberg (Transformers: Age of Extinction) to capture a Taliban leader during the War on Afghanistan. However, the mission becomes dire when the team finds themselves ambushed by Taliban forces.

Lone Survivor also stars Eric Bana (Munich), Ben Foster (Kill Your Darlings), Emile Hirsch (The Motel Life), and Taylor Kitsch (Battleship). The first trailer balances the line between action war film with contemplative drama, which is a welcome change. Early press quotes compare the film to Saving Private Ryan, which is one of the best compliments to be made for contemporary war films. Lone Survivor will have a limited theatrical release on December 27th with a wider release set for January 10, 2014.
