[Trailer] Exodus: Gods and Kings

Although I've already seen the best possible interpretations of Moses' biblical story already (The Prince of Egypt, The Ten Commandments, and Simpsons Bible Stories) I'm hoping Ridley Scott's take on the classic tale has pizazz. Directed by Scott and starring lots of talented folks like Christian Bale, Ben Kingsley, Sigourney Weaver, and Aaron Paul, Exodus: Gods and Kings is an adaptation of the Book of Exodus which chronicles the tale of Moses, a man who helped free the Isrealites from Egyptian tyranny thanks to powers bestowed upon him by God.
If Darren Aronofsky's Noah from earlier this year and Gods and Kings have anything in common, it's that they're both extremely pretty to look at. But something still feels off about this debut trailer. I can't quite put my finger on it, but it's almost as if the whole thing is hollow. Of course, it's still too early to tell for sure. Besides, if this helps usher in a new age of religious films, I'm all for it.
Exodus: Gods and Kings releases December 12th.
[Trailer] Mall

Now that Linkin Park is no longer the headlining band for the Transformers series (as Imagine Dragons takes that crown), it's time for them to find something else to do within the cinemascape. Their search has led them to Mall, a terribly generic and frankly awful looking film. Maybe I'm being a bit too harsh given that this is only the first trailer, but nothing about this screams "must see."
Directed by Joseph Hahn of Linkin Park (who's done a few of their music videos, actually), Mall is about five people who come together during a shooting spree in a shopping mall...although you probably couldn't tell since the trailer sees fit to have so many weird music video effects like after images and bad character design. Hey, maybe the final product won't be so bad? I don't have high hopes, but I'd love to be proven wrong.
Mall releases into theaters (?) this fall.
[Trailer] The Wedding Ringer

Kevin Hart's been on quite an upswing lately. I may not be a fan of his particular brand of yelling/comedy, but it's definitely hard to ignore the man's presence in almost every media within the last few months. Here's the first trailer for a film coming next year, The Wedding Ringer, a film I already don't like because the title reminds me of a better film, The Wedding Singer.
The Wedding Ringer stars Josh Gad as a guy with no friends who's getting married. He goes to an agency and hires Kevin Hart to be his Best Man. And then shenanigans happen. Sorry if you wanted a more in depth synopsis, but there doesn't seem to be a lot here. To be fair, I did laugh at some of the gags (the Goonies joke) but as the trailer rolled on I didn't like where it ended up. But maybe you do. Different strokes, different folks.
The Wedding Ringer releases January 16, 2015.
[Trailer] The Two Faces of January

Adapted from Patricia Highsmith's novel of the same name, The Two Faces of January stars Viggo Mortensen and Kirsten Dunst as a husband and wife visiting Athens on vacation. During the trip they encounter Rydal (Oscar Isaac), a con-man who wants to take advantage of them. But when Rydal has dinner with the young couple, he finds out they're a lot more crooked than they seem.
I've always been a big fan of the "Who's the real criminal?" films, and The Two Faces of January looks to be a compelling thriller if this trailer is anything to go by. If that's not enough to convince you, Viggo Mortensen and Oscar Isaac (who has recently been added to the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII) are there to help smooth things out.
The Two Faces of January releases on VOD/ iTunes August 28th, and theatrically September 26th.
[Trailer 2] Let's Be Cops

It's been a great year for R rated comedies (with 22 Jump Street and Neighbors having successful runs through the box office), and it looks like it's going to continue with Let's Be Cops. Starring Jake Johnson and Damon Wayans Jr., two friends are mistaken as real police officers when they dress up for Halloween. This second Red Band trailer does have a lot of the same jokes as the first one, but there's plenty of new info here. We have a full plot now as the two have to stop a crime kingpin (played by Andy Garcia!), and it's cut much better.
I wasn't feeling Let's Be Cops at first, but given Johnson and Wayans Jr.'s natural rapport from New Girl, I'm sure it's going to be a great time. If you can't see the Red Band one above for its NSFW language, I've added the Green Band (clean) version below.
Let's Be Cops releases August 13th.
