"Keep it official like a referee and blow the whistle, if I ain't with you, simmer down while I spew my riddle."

I first met Spectacular Diagnostics through Rude One, and only knew him as a graphic designer. He actually did the artwork for the bulk of Rude's ONEderful LP, which came out almost a year ago (revisit that here).

After submitting all the art, SD, sent me links to his own music - mostly obscure leaning, crunchy, instrumentals, and some that featured face-scrunching rappers like Conway and Chester Watson. His 2016 release, Avant Raw is a harken cry back to the late 90's heyday of releases from producers and DJ's like Handsome Boy Modeling School, UNKLE, Kid Koala etc. I highly suggest it if you're looking for a fix like that. Fuck it, I'll embed it below for easy listening.

But first, I want to say something about his new shit, "DISCORAMA" featuring Grandmilly. I don't know how I stumbled upon this yesterday, but it's been in my head since. I didn't know it at the time, but it was exactly what I was looking for. It carries Spectacular's signature dusty production while Grandmilly simply goes off with the wordplay. If that's what you like, you will very much like this.

The song is part of Spectacular's new project, The Spec Tape, an already sold out cassette. If you were lucky enough to cop the cassette, you also got "DISCORAMA" and 2 other joints as free downloads. You can still find all the tracks here, and kick yourself for not finding this sooner.

And here is Avant Raw.

Flying Lotus: "Heart Racing Mix"

It's been almost a month since Grand Theft Auto was released, amassing seven Guinness World Records (including the fastest-selling video game to gross $1b). Of course, it wouldn't be a Grand Theft Auto game without its fair share of controversy, ranging from the technical problems that plagued Grand Theft Auto Online's release two weeks ago (resulting in the studio offering $500,000 in in-game currency) or the social problems about the game's violence. One aspect of the franchise that can't be argued with is each game's immaculate soundtrack.

When I'm patiently following the rules of the road (and having other drivers heckle and flip me off because of it), I like to channel surf between the punk rock-driven Channel X, the jazzy WorldWide FM, and the hip hop stylings of FlyLo FM. Flying Lotus has recently released a new mix, "Heart Racing Mix," that features some of the mixes found in GTA V. Check it out below!

[Mixtape] Savier: "Dead Weight Beat Tape 3"

Animuse's Savier has been a busy man the past few months. Besides producing beats for newcomer Manny P, he's also produced some beats for Auggie the 9th's upcoming GAWS and ShowYouSuck's One Man Pizza Party 4 (amongst other artists, of course) to keep himself from getting rusty. To show that the Animuse hiatus was productive, Savier released a mix tape of instrumentals this week, Dead Weight Beat Tape 3, which you can listen to below.

With the drop also comes confirmation that Animuse will be releasing a new project, #TheLucyList, this September, as well as a solo Savier EP, #LeSauveur, in late October. Welcome back, Animuse!

[Video] Von Vuai: "RADIANT"

Two weeks after he dropped STANK, Chicago producer Von Vuai is back to deliver visuals for my personal favorite track, "RADIANT." The video consists of Von and friends partaking in some extracurricular activity with a soft saturation. A laidback and carefree environment is exactly what I had in mind when I first heard "RADIANT," and it's good to see that what I envisioned is mostly what Von and company pictured, as well. Enjoy this great video for the summer that doesn't fall into the trappings of being a "summer song."

[RH Interview] Legitmix wants to revolutionize the way you consume remixes

Remixes and mash-ups of songs have existed in one form or another for a multitude of years as rappers and musicians have released a capella versions of their songs to encourage such projects. You can't go into a club or dance party without hearing a DJ spinning one of their own original remixes. However, the nature of remixes doesn't easily allow audiences to acquire such remixes unless the DJ releases their own version. Of course, such releases run the risk of being shut down due to copyright laws protecting the properties of the original artists featured in the mixes. So what's the solution?

Omid McDonald and Booker Sim feel like they found one with Legitmix. The service allows DJs to upload their remixes, and by utilizing an algorithm the developers put together, remixes are broken down to separate original music from sampled artists' songs. With such illustrious artists like Diplo and The Hood Internet backing up the service, and a platform for aspiring DJs and producers to showcase their remixes, Legitmix represents a revolutionary way for both fans and artists to share and discover new music.

Read on for my full interview with both Omid and Booker. At the end of the interview is an exclusive look at "The Vapors Pack," which is a remix created by Pickster, Riot Earp, and Melo that fully showcases how the Legitmix service organizes each remix in the pack.

Album artwork for COLDeSACK's Raw Eggs EP

[EP] COLDeSACK: "Raw Eggs"

SaveMoney's COLDeSACK has a great ear for samples and he knows how to flip them, so it's no wonder we recently listed him in our 15 Chicago Producers To Watch In 2013. Straight out of nowhere, the young artist comes through with the Raw Eggs EP and mesmerizes the listener with his trippy lo-fi instrumentals. Make sure you support the homie and cop the the project.
