Adventures of Miniature Star Wars Characters by Zahir Batin

Adventures of Miniature Star Wars Characters by Zahir Batin

Photos by Zahir Batin

In tribute to the legendary cultural phenomenon that is Star Wars, Malaysian photographer Zahir Batin created miniature scenes with stormtroopers acting out their adventures and everyday lives here on Earth.

To make this happen, Zahir arranged various miniature stormtroopers and other Star Wars figurines, and shot them up close to make them seem like actors in his very own Star Wars-themed adventures. Some of them are dramatic or suspenseful and others are even humorous, like R2D2's run in with a baby chicken.

On Zahir's facebook page, he goes even further by sharing the behind-the-scenes work that goes into each image, including some of his techniques. Aside from photoshop, his use of strings, wires and twigs to position his characters makes it all the more entertaining.

Models posed with real animals by Katerina Plotnikova

Unbelievable Portraits of Models Posing with Real Animals

Photos by Katerina Plotnikova

It's unbelievable that the following photos you are about to see are not photoshopped. Moscow-based Russian photographer Katerina Plotnikova created photo set of impressive portraits of hand selected choice of models posed with real animals, showcasing the unlikely fictional relationship between human and beast.

Although the photos appear seemingly dangerous, thankfully, these shots were made possible with well-trained animals and the help of professional animal handlers. However, even without the animals, each photo possesses a soft and mystical quality to them, making them endearing and charming. Whether posed with a venomous snake, a large bear, or tiny fox, there's even a regal sense in each model, leaving each photo uniquely engaging.

Marsha Ambrosius Live at The Shrine, Chicago by AngieStar Photo

With the recent release of her latest EPFVCK&LOVE, and with the anticipation of her upcoming sophomore album titled Friends & Lovers, it’s no surprise that British songstress Marsha Ambrosius had a sold out show at the The Shrine in Chicago. Brought to you by notable event coordinators Kristian Eliz and Jacob Thomas Entertainment, Marsha brought good energy, entertained with sultry and sassy talking bits in between songs, and with a wide range of vocals, the singer confirmed her undeniable classic talent.

The show was hosted by budding local talent Lili K, fluidly keeping the night going. After Philly-bred, Motown signed R&B group MPrynt performed and while talented Chicago based singer Kiara Lanier got the crowd warmed up, we were able to get a brief exclusive interview with Marsha. Inside her brightly lit, art adorned tour bus, she sat down right in front of a big screen tv that was playing March Madness clips, confirming her love for basketball. We were briefly able to talk about her music inspiration, her experience as a solo artist since Floetry, and of course, her thoughts on Chicago.

Shortly after the interview, we all scurried back into the venue to get the show started. Gracing the stage with a laced and tasseled, black and nude robe, Ambrosius seduced old fans and enticed new ones with an intro of her latest hit, Stronger than Pride. She then proceeded to sing some of her various hits, including old Floetry favorites like Getting Late and Say Yes. After leaving the audience wanting more, we were then treated by a DJ set from the infamous MC Lyte. The set was so good, Marsha even stood until close, jamming to Hip Hop hits and dance inducing tracks.

Marsha, who would you say is an inspiration for your music?

(Smiles) I'd be lying if I didn't say Michael Jackson, I've always been a huge fan.

Are you enjoying being a solo artist moreso than being in a group?

I've actually always been a solo artist, even with Floetry, I was a solo artist.

Interesting. And now just one last question, what do you like about Chicago?

It's kind of unfair to ask what I like about Chicago, because what I LOVE about Chicago is the people. Like no matter where I am in the world, I can always spot Chicago people. I always connect, it's crazy, I have a crazy connection here. It's always what I dreamed about, like I'm IN Chicago! (laughs)

Foodscapes by Carl Warner

Impressive Landscapes Made Entirely Out of Food By Carl Warner

Photos by Carl Warner

Playing with food is an understatement when it comes to the work of London-based photographer Carl Warner. As if food photography wasn't popular enough, this man takes it to a whole new level creating deliciously ingenious sets of impressive landscapes made entirely out of food titled "Foodscapes".

As a former advertisement photographer, Warner has had his fair share of experience with artificial lighting and tabletop photography. When it comes to his foodscapes, it's noted that he came up with the idea to capture clever arrangements of cabbage oceans, bread mountains and salami trees almost a whole decade ago, but hadn't received international recognition until 2008. From that point on, he has continued to develop various ideas in food landscapes making them look so realistic. For the most part, you can’t even tell that the miniature food models aren’t actually landscape photographs.

Former Miss Venezuela in Photographic Campaign for Human Rights

Photos by Daniel Bracci

In reaction to high inflation, shortages of basic goods and a fragile economy in Venezuela, clashes continue to ensue between the socialist president’s forces and opposition protesters, and it's been going on for weeks. In sight of the ongoing struggle, fashion photographer Daniel Bracci started a photographic political campaign called Your Voice is Your Power. This is set out to shed light on the overwhelming oppression experienced by media outlets, while highlighting the human rights violations also taking place throughout their home country.

In this campaign, Bracci uses former Miss Venezuelan and Miss Universe, Stefania Fernandez, along with so many other locals of all sorts, and poses them gagged, hand cuffed, dirty, and with bloody tears running down their face. What's most notable and different in Stefania's photos is her shiny crown still intact and sitting pretty on her head, perhaps making one of the biggest statements of her life.

The photography for this campaign is powerful and so captivating. Check out the following photos and be sure follow Daniel Bracci's Instagram and find so much more on the campaign's facebook album.

La Catrina de Primavera by AngieStar Photography

[Through My Lens] La Catrina de Primavera

Photos by AngieStar Photography

According to Mexican Folklore, La Catrina is also known as death that can show herself in many different ways. This distinct and perennial character is a paradox to the joy of life in the face of the imminence and inevitability of death. As we only live once, La Catrina pleads with us to seize the moment and to perhaps find life’s meaning.

As we enter Spring after a long Winter, I grew inspired with the new growth of nature along with the anomaly of death in La Catrina. Collaborating with styling ideas of event promoter and producer Alejandra Camarillo, formally known as Ms. Chicago, we created our own unique version titled "La Catrina de Primavera" (translated as Spring Dame of Death). Using the backdrop of Pilsen, a predominant Mexican neighborhood on the south side of Chicago, we produced a truly unique photo set, and I couldn't be happier with the outcome.

The Impossible Instant lab by Impossible Porject

Turn iPhone Photos into Polaroids

Before mobile phones and Instagram, Polaroids were it as far as instant photography cameras. Although the corporation made the decision, in February 2008, to cease all production in favor of digital photography products, the Impossible Project  has succeeded in reviving authentic Polaroid-style instant camera prints. What started as a Kickstarter fund last year, turned into a successful project that produced their unique iPhone polaroid printer, The Impossible Instant Lab, available for sale to the general public.

In case you haven't heard of this before, The Impossible Instant lab is a savvy kit that allows you to print a real Polaroid instant photo from your iPhone. Unlike other smartphone photo printers, the Impossible Lab doesn't connect to your smartphone using Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. Instead, it's literally a lightbox you place your phone in, which then takes a real Polaroid picture of the screen and prints it out. It also includes a free app that overrides your iPhone's brightness and color balance settings, guaranteeing a perfect exposure at all times. Clever.

Pricing from $299, it's not the most affordable printing device, but definitely worth it's value in the long run. Check out the following photos and see it in action with their vimeo video here.
