Nikon 1 J4 Mirrorless Camera Rumor

Nikon May Introduce New Mirrorless Camera And Lens

With the release of the Nikon 1 V3 it looks like is going back to the lab to develop a new mirror less camera to add to their Nikon 1 lineup. Rumor has it that Nikon is back in the lab working on the Nikon 1 J4 which will feature a LCD touchscreen with a flash sync speed of 1/60 of a second like it's predecessor the Nikon 1 J3.  As of right not now that's all that is out there when it comes to camera specs but I'm pretty sure new information will leak soon enough. Nikon Rumors also stated that Nikon will more than likely also be introducing a new lightweight 18-300mm super zoom lens weighing in at 20oz and constructed entirely of plastic. Will have to wait and see until these new products are officially announced but it'll be interesting see what Nikon come comes up with.

Calumet Photo Shutsdown

Calumet Photographic abruptly shuts down, files Chapter 7

Calumet Photographic's tag line reads "Where the pros go," and now it seems that only the photography pros in Europe will still continue to be able to visit their stores. In a rather shocking move, Calumet Photographic has shut down all of its American stores and has filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy. What's even more shocking is that as of right now, there is no official statement from the company but rather a short statement on their Facebook page. By reading some of the comments on the Facebook post, it also seems like some of their employees had no word of the impending shutdown and now remain jobless.

Nikon vs Sigma VR Patent Lawsuit

Nikon Is Awarded $14.5 Million From Sigma In VR Patent Lawsuit

It looks like Nikon has finally won its lawsuit against Sigma for its patented VR image stabilization technology dating back as far as May 2011. Recently, Sigma was ordered by the Tokyo District Court to fork over 1.5 billion JPY or roughly around $14.5 million as compensation for the company deemed by the judge for using Nikon's technology in their lenses. As of right now, there is no telling what the future holds for Sigma as they move forward in producing new lenses, but it's unrealistic to think that they will stop making optically-stabilized lenses. Depending on the decisions they make, it may result in Sigma raising their prices on future lenses. They may be forced to develop new technology or perhaps reach a deal with Nikon and continue to use their technology by paying a royalty. Either way, each alternative is costly, so we'll have to wait and see.

Cámara Visión Nocturna App

Be Careful What Camera App You Download

We all download apps whether we use iPhones or Androids but which ever store you use to download you should be conscious of what you're downloading to your smart phone. Now each store is by no means perfect but it is stated by Kaspersky Labs that, "98% of mobile malware targets Androids." With this high percentage Android users should look at the apps they are downloading because it can make the experience of using mobile apps a terrible one. With that being said Avast has uncovered a night vision camera app named "Cámara Visión Nocturna" Spanish for Night Vision Camera  that is not all what it seems to be. When downloaded it asks permission to use certain apps on your phone like WhatsApp or ChatOn sending your number to it's servers where it signs you up for a messaging service without your consent or knowledge. From there more messages are sent out and the bill continues to rise without the user knowing what is going on. So when downloading apps be aware that things like this could be going on in the background so be aware of the apps you feel the need to download.

Young Photographer’s Invisible Self-Portrait Series

Photos by Laura Williams

Photographer Laura Williams has been getting some attention for her recent work lately, most notably for her invisible self portrait series. When I stumbled upon some of the photos in the series, I must say that I was pretty impressed because one look at them and all you can say is wow. When I dug deeper, I came across some more of her work, and when you see the images, it's like you're traveling inside someone's dream. There's a really cool creative factor that she has going on with her photos, but it's kind of haunting as well. No matter how you interpret her work, one thing is for sure: Laura has a huge imagination with the talent to create some incredible images. You can check out some of her photos below, and for more of her work, you can visit her Flickr account here.

Bobby Reys Photo Session:Michelle

[RH Photos] Michelle by Bobby Reys

Recently, I've been taking a lot of landscape shots, and every so often, shooting some architecture that really captures my eye. While I love getting to shot outside in nature, I have always enjoyed shooting portraits, and it has been a couple months since I've done so. A few days ago I hit up Michelle to see if she wanted to shoot and see what we could come up with. With the weather in Chicago still being a little chilly, we decided that we would hit up the Lincoln Park Conservatory and take advantage of the great plant/flower life and use it as a back drop. It was fun getting back to shooting portraits, and I can't wait to continue to do more of them. These are some of the shots that we took that day, and you can see more of them on my blog here.
