Azealia Banks responds to Twitter suspension

Azealia Banks is arguably hip-hop’s queen of online shade. She has made a name for herself not only for her innovative, genre-bending music but also her long list of beefs with fellow celebrities. But now it seems like Banks’ fiery online temper has finally caught up with her, as earlier this week Twitter banned Banks over her most recent celebrity feud.

The drama all began earlier this week when Banks blasted former One Direction singer Zayn Malik, accusing him of stealing her style for his new “Like I Would” video.

After Malik fired subtle responses at Banks, the rapper went into shade overdrive and hurled a series of bigoted, homophobic tweets at Malik.

“@zaynmalik lol u a b—- n—- for even responding like that. Keep sucking this yung rapunxel d— u hairy curry scented b—-,” Banks wrote in one tweet, while in another she wrote, “Token sand n—- pout: “I was the least celebrated in the white boy group because I’m brown.”

During Banks’ shade fest, 14-year-old Disney channel actress Skai Jackson chimed in and advised Banks to “simmer down.” That’s when Banks turned her attention to Jackson and scolded her for jumping in the beef.

“And you need to grow some hips and start ur menses. stay in a child’s place,” Banks wrote to Jackson.

That’s when Jackson fired back with a now infamous response to Banks.

“@AZEALIABANKS a meme with 2.3 million Instagram followers. My memes are more relevant than you now that’s sad. Now bye Twitter troll,” Jackson said in one of her responses to Banks.

Never one to be silenced, Banks continued her rants against Malik and Jackson. But it looks like Twitter had enough of Banks’ controversial comments because yesterday it was revealed that the social media site had suspended Banks' account.

Well, Banks didn’t seem too hurt by the news of her Twitter suspension because she went straight to Instagram and shared how she felt about the news, as well as her latest thoughts on Malik and Jackson. Read what she had to say after the cut.

Lupita Nyongo, more Brown girls we’d cast in Marvel’s ‘Black Panther’

Lupita Nyong’o, best known for her Academy Award-winning performance in 12 Years a Slave, is on track to play the love interest opposite Chadwick Boseman in Marvel’s Black Panther.

The Mexican-born Kenyan beauty is in talks to take on the unspecified role, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Should she sign on the dotted line Nyong’o will star alongside Boseman, the super genius warrior king of the African nation of Wakanda, also known as the Black Panther, or, T’Challa.

In the Marvel universe, Wakanda is famous for its rich deposits of vibranium, the unbreakable metal used to make Captain America’s shield. Spoiler alert: as expected, T’Challa makes his first appearance in the latest Marvel blockbuster, Captain America: Civil War, with Boseman offering much needed clarity, adding new insights about his character's past.

For those unfamiliar with Black Panther, he was the first Black superhero to surface in mainstream comics. In July 1966, he made his comic book debut in Fantastic Four No. 52. Though predated by characters like Marvel’s Gabe Jones and Dell Comics’ Lobo, his initial appearance cemented T’Challa’s place as the first superhuman in the medium’s mainstream history.

Although very little is known about Nyong’o’s proposed role, we imagine she’ll have the ability to kick some butt, much like her brilliant tactician, strategist, scientist, tracker and a master of unarmed combat boyfriend. In the event Nyong’o doesn’t take the role, we’ve compiled a list of brown girls we’d cast in Marvel’s Black Panther. They’re bold, beautiful and known to kick some tail end. Hit the flip to check out our top five picks.

Yet another alleged Prince heir comes forward

Ever since Prince’s untimely death late last month, a feud  between his surviving siblings over the rights to his sizable fortune has been ongoing. While his siblings are busy bickering, reports have claimed that hundreds of people have come forward claiming to have rights to a slice of the pie that is Prince’s fortune. However, other reports claim that one young girl may actually have real claim to a substantial portion of Prince’s wealth.

According to media reports, an attorney named Mike Padden recently filed documents with Prince’s probate, claiming that the late music icon’s late half brother, Duane Nelson, Sr., has a granddaughter who is eligible to claim an inheritance.

The report claims that Duane, who was previously Prince’s bodyguard, died in 2011 and that his son died in 2005. However, Duane’s son had a daughter who is now 11 years old and living somewhere in Minnesota.

Padden wants a court to vet the young girl to make sure that she’s actually a blood relative to Prince. He also wants a guardian to be appointed to look out for the girl’s best interests in the process.

Sources, however, say that Prince’s full sister, Tyka Nelson, omitted Duane from her list of siblings when she first began the probate proceedings. The sources say that some members of the family aren’t convinced that Duane was really one of the singer’s blood relatives, which brings into question whether his granddaughter is a blood relative.

Well, even if Prince’s alleged grandniece and guardian prove her legitimacy with a DNA test, they’re still in for an up-hill battle when it comes to claiming some of the singer’s money.

As previously reported, Tyka is going to court with their five surviving half-siblings to sort out who should get what portion of Prince’s reported $150 million fortune. Although Minnesota law claims that the siblings all have an equal share of Prince’s wealth, sources say that Tyka wants a larger share for herself. Making matters worse is the fact that Prince’s assets are frozen until a judge can determine how much the administrator of Prince’s estate should give to the late artist’s family for living expenses.

According to the same reports, things have gotten nasty between Tyka and the rest of her half siblings. Apparently, one of Prince's half-siblings, Alfred Jackson, alleged that one of his half-siblings might have tried to sabotage his eligibility for the money by putting out a false missing persons report on him.

Clearly, this is still a messy family situation and we hope it gets settled sooner than later.

Amber Rose

Amber Rose's legal battle over her name

Amber Rose has done a lot over the past two years, transitioning from a famous hip-hop girlfriend and wife to an independent superstar mogul. But despite all of the work she has done, her name may be in jeopardy as reports have revealed that she’s facing a legal battle over the right to trademark the name "Amber Rose".

According to media reports, Rose filed a series legal documents in an attempt to trademark her name,  so that she can be the sole person profiting from it. However, up-and-coming country singer Amber Rose Kelly has reportedly also filed trademark documents for the name and wants sole rights to it as well. Now, the two women are in a legal war over the rights.

The report claims that Kelly is intent on proving to the Trademark Office that she was famous years before Amber because she was already an award-nominated former child actor, singer, songwriter, recording artist, model and photographer.

Kelly is claiming that Rose only recently became popular and that her success boils down to nothing more than being a former stripper who enjoys being half-naked in public.

Kelly also claims that she was easily searchable on Google long before 2009, when Amber first rose to fame as the then-girlfriend of Kanye West.

However, Rose disagrees, claiming that she’s the only famous Amber Rose and that most people know nothing of a country singer named Amber Rose Kelly. She also argues that Amber Rose is her real name and that Kelly is merely attempting to piggyback on her fame to a financial windfall.

We have to be honest and admit that we hadn’t heard of Kelly until these reports came out, so we’d be shocked to see Amber Rose's legal battle over her name result in her losing. As always, we’ll just have to wait and see how this plays out.

Ice T’s 2016 Art of Rap Festival features Public Enemy and The Sugar Hill Gang

Music festival season just got sweeter for hip-hop purists.  The premier of Ice T's 2016 Art of Rap Festival was recently announced by the rap music legend, actor and entrepreneur himself. This event is set to celebrate the history of hip-hop by featuring a lineup of performances by some of the greatest MCs to ever hold a microphone. The festival, which will tour major cities in the United States, boosts a magnificent roster of rappers including Public Enemy, EPMD, The Sugar Hill Gang, Mobb Deep, MC Lyte, Kurtis Blow, Naughty By Nature, and Melle Mel.

Ice T’s 2016 Art Of Rap Festival was birthed last year when Ice T himself organized events to highlight the rich history of the now-dominant musical genre.

When discussing the purpose behind his 2012 documentary, Something From Nothing: The Art Of Rap, after which the festival is named, Ice T said, “The main thing I want people to get out of this is respect for the art form.  We call it something from nothing.  When I started rapping, nobody had ever bought a car from money earned by rapping. When you [are] doing stuff and not getting paid, it’s different. Now, rap is a train that’s moving fast and a lot of people are seeing it as a way to get on and become famous. But all we want you to do is sit down and put some work in so the level and the degree of the art can stay up there. ‘Cause when you drop the bar really low and anybody can do it, it won’t be respected.”

See the tour dates below:

07-16 Dallas, TX – Gexa Pavilion

07-17 Austin, TX – Austin 360 Amphitheater

07-22 Hollywood, CA – Palladium

Lemonade

[Review] Beyoncé releases highly anticipated album 'Lemonade'

For the past few weeks, Beyoncé has kept fans in a tizzy about her mysterious Lemonade project. She dropped several teasers, still it was unsure just what the singer was working on. Now, we finally have an answer: it's a new album. We shouldn't be so surprised; Beyoncé pulled the same surprise move for her stellar self-titled album in 2013. Bey premiered the album via an hour long HBO special and it may just be her most personal work yet.

Beyoncé and Jay-Z are music's ultimate power couple, but if these new songs are anything to go by not everything is marital bliss. The album opens with “Pray You Catch Me,” a song where she discovers that her lover is cheating and lying. Beyoncé sings, “You can taste the dishonesty, it’s all over your breath as you pass it off so cavalier.” It’s a melancholy introduction of the initial pain of finding out that infidelity has occurred.

Bey continues the theme of infidelity on “Hold Up.” Beyoncé seems to tell her lover that other women can’t compare to what she brings to the table. “Back up, they don’t love you like I love you,” she sings. She later threatens violence if things continue to go too far: “Strolling through your call list, I don’t want to lose my pride, but I’m gonna f— me up a b—.” The anger reaches its crescendo on “Don’t Hurt Yourself,” as Beyoncé takes listeners into a full-fledged argument with assistance from Jack White on guitar: “Blindly in love, I f—s with you, until I realized I’m too much for you…tonight I’m f—g up all your s— boy!” She ends the song with a blatant threat: “This is your final warning, you know I give your life, if you try this s— again, you gonna lose your wife.”

“Daddy Lessons” infuses New Orleans’ second line traditions with country and blues as Beyoncé tells a story where her father teaches her to shoot any man who attempts to do her wrong. “Love Drought,” “Sand Castles,” and “Forward” serve as songs where the worst issues have been confronted and the thoughts of how to handle the relationship in the future become evident.

Just when it seems like things are heading for the worse in comes the ballad “All Night” brings the entire project together. Beyoncé appears to forgive and now understands that even fairytales take hard work. Every good relationship is built on the idea of accepting each other’s flaws and surviving the bad times. “True love never has to hide, I trade your broken wings for mines,” she sings.

Kendrick Lamar provides another magnificent verse on the powerful “Freedom,” and The Weeknd joins Beyoncé to pay homage to strippers on “6-Inch.” “Formation,” which caused a stir when initially released, closes the album.

Overall, Lemonade is Beyoncé’s version of Here, My Dear— an album that detailed the fallout between Marvin Gaye and his wife Anna Gordy. Lemonade probably won’t be remembered as her most significant project, but it’s arguably Beyoncé’s most vulnerable moment.
