Dysturb: Photojournalism Hits the Streets of Paris

Photos by Rafael Yagobzadeh

The internet has made it easier for photographers to showcase their work and get it out to the masses. However, it's because of this that your work can get lost in the mix with so much information floating around. When it comes to getting your stuff published in magazines, that becomes a whole other challenge... something that photojournalist Pierre Terdjam has faced time and time again. Due to the subject matter of his photography, he has found it almost impossible to get the photos he's taken published from his visits to Egypt, Georgia, and Afghanistan. He wants to share what he has seen in war-torn parts of the world and show people what is really going on.

In order to get his photos noticed, he and some friends created a project known as Dysturb, which involves wheat pasting their images that can get published all over the streets of Paris. Their photos are blown up to billboard-sized prints so the masses can get a glimpse of what life is like in places such as Ukraine and Egypt. The goal of this project is to raise awareness and tell the story of what is going on in parts of the world that many never see. The group hopes to inspire other photographers to think of different ways to get their work out into the world, and they plan on expanding into the U.S. You can check out some of their work in the gallery below.

Everybody is on their phone. Thousands of people everyday wear out their thumbs scrolling through photos, deciding which ones to post on Instagram. It’s so easy to do whether you’re a photographer or not; just point, shoot, choose a filter and post whatever you created. From funny duck face selfies, to breathtaking landscapes, to gritty city streets. Some use it as visual journal giving glimpses of their lives, while others have taken it to another level by creating works of art. All of us at Ruby Hornet are fans of the social media platform and decided to do a weekly series highlighting people whose Instagrams stand above the rest. Let us know in the comments section if you’d like to be featured, or let us know about some other cool Instagrams. Be sure to follow Ruby Hornet on Instagram, too.

This week’s featured Instagram comes from @whighfield. I really enjoy this Instagram gallery because you get a bunch of awesome imagery ranging from portraits to shots of the Big Apple. This photographer clearly has a great style, and I definitely enjoy her portraits, but what I think is really awesome are her shots that involve fog. There is something haunting about the images she captures, be it the scenery or someone walking through foggy weather. It's hard for me to explain all of this, so I'll let her photos do the talking below. Make sure head on over to her Instagram for more.

This week’s featured Instagram comes from @ditsen. I'm a really big fan of food photography, and some of my favorite accounts belong to those that are food photographers. I'm not talking about photos of someone's lunch from some fast food chain, but people that have a passion for creating in the kitchen. That's why I'm drawn to this Instagrammer's gallery because you can tell a lot of effort and creativity went into each dish and each photo. When going through her gallery, you'll get a lot of goodies and some other stunning landscape shots from time to time, but the focus here is the food. Be sure to check out some of her photos below, and head on over to her Instagram for more.

Big Sur, California by AngieStar Photo

[Through My Lens] A Journey Through the Coast of Big Sur

Photos by AngieStar Photo

The USA Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) is perhaps America's most dramatic scenic drive. And along this coast is a region called Big Sur that lies along the Central Coast of California, and renowned as one of the best of scenics drives in the whole world. As someone who has road tripped through a good portion of the country already, I made it my mission to take a journey through the coast of Big Sur to see for myself.

I started my drive from Los Angeles just before sunrise, so I would have perfect daylight by the time I reached Big Sur. Immediately, I was taken into the high coastal cliffs, following each twist and turn there is along the Pacific Ocean. With the perfect California breeze into my open windows of the car, while listening to a perfectly timed music playlist, I was awestruck. And just when I thought scenery couldn't get any more amazing, I found myself in Big Sur. To me, the area is more of an experience than a tangible place. There are no stop lights, or shopping centers, just 90 miles of driving along a narrow two-lane highway with breathtaking view points and campsites. The wildlife is a whole other aspect of Big Sur as one of your first stops is on the beach at Piedras Blancas in southern Big Sur near San Simeon to see hundreds on Elephant Seals in their natural habitat. Then with the abundance it birds and forest animals, every one of your senses are heightened with all the combined elements of life.

Here are some of the photos I captured, and what makes me want to back. If anything is taken from this, it should be to take a trip to Big Sur; it's worth it.

This week’s featured Instagram comes from @nativechild. The photos from this Instagram gallery are some of my favorites because of their photo composition and the subject matter. You'll get a good mix of everything from shots of architecture to portraits to landscapes and everything in between. Some of my favorite shots are the ones shot at night because of the look and feel of them and how the photos are edited. Be sure to check out some of his photos here, and head on over to his Instagram for more imagery.

Canon Announces New Zoom Lenses and White Rebel SL1

It looks like Canon has decided to bless Canon shooters with some new goods by announcing the release of two new zoom lenses and a white version of the EOS Rebel SL1. The first lens is a full-frame f4 EF mount L-series lens that should be an alternative to their 16-35mm f2.8L lens. Built like other L Series lenses, it's designed with weather resistances to dust and water when conditions aren't always ideal. It also sports a nine blade aperture, two UD Elements, and three aspherical elements, which should help to create high contrast images.

Canon didn't leave out the cropped frame shooters, announcing a new ultra-wide angle APS-C L zoom lens too. The new EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 lens is considered an ultra-wide-angle zoom lens, and as BH & H states, "The optical system comprises a “large-diameter” lens element, as well as one aspherical and one UD element to control aberrations and create high-resolution, high-contrast images. Enhanced lens coatings also improve color balance while minimizing ghosting and flare."

You would think with the announcement of the two lenses, Canon would have called it a day, but they announced that they would release a new Rebel SL1 color option for Canon shooters in the US by releasing an all white version of the EOS Rebel SL1.  If you're in need of some new gear, head on over to Canon's website for prices and specs for these latest products here.

Ashley Benson Photographed by Zoe McConnell

Beautiful Ashley Benson Covers Complex Magazine

Photos by Zoe McConnell

Although Spring Break is over, summer comes in full swing as beautiful actress Ashley Benson covers the new June/July 2014 issue of COMPLEX Magazine, and it's hot! (No pun intended). Shot by popular celebrity photographer Zoe McConnell, Benson models swimwear and revealing attire, in front of vibrant colors, and on a beach front for the magazine's cover and feature. The feature includes an elaborate exclusive interview by Tara Aquino with a wide array of questions.

In the interview, we learn a lot more about the Spring Breakers starlet, such as her strict upbringing in Anaheim, California, her claim to fame, bizarre run-in's with fans, tabloid rumors, and much more. The photos are stunning and the article is very entertaining, definitely be sure to take a look here.

Maybe that's why I'm drawn to this Instagram gallery because its photo composition and the amazing landscapes shots of the Pacific Northwest. It's a nice change from seeing skyscrapers and the daily stuff of urban living, and the views aren't something you can't get in a big city.
