[Trailer] ANIMALS

[iframe id="https://movies.yahoo.com/video/animals-trailer-163000763.html?format=embed"]

ANIMALS is an indie drama about a couple dealing with their addiction starring David Dastmalchian (Ant-Man) and Kim Shaw (She's Out of My League) written by Dastmalchian and helmed by debuting director Collin Schiffli. While I absolutely fell in love with the film at SXSW 2014, I worried that the film wouldn't find wide distribution, and I'm more than thrilled to be proven wrong. Considering the film won the Special Jury Prize for Courage in Storytelling at SXSW 2015, it was only a matter of time before the film found a distributor that could treat it well, and it will fit perfectly well alongside distributor Oscilloscope Laboratories' slate of films. If it sounds like I'm short selling the film, it's only because the film truly should be seen, and a synopsis/summary of the film can't truly capture the film's amazing storytelling and performances.

Make absolutely sure you catch ANIMALS when it's released on May 2015.  While you wait, enjoy the recently released trailer above, and check out our SXSW video interview with Shaw, Schiffli, and Dastmalchian here.

Mad Men Season 7 Promo

[Weekly Netflix Fix] Final March Update

The final Netflix Instant update of March is here, and while it doesn't feature many quality updates, a few additions make up for the otherwise lackluster update. Just in time for the final season of Mad Men (which is actually the second half of Season 7) comes the first half of the season set in the first half of 1969. As an avid Mad Men fan, I tore through the seven episodes in a day and can't wait for the final seven. Also included in this update is Life Itself, the brilliant documentary about one of my idols, Roger Ebert.

You can find the full list of new Netflix Instant additions below.

The Cast of Ghostbusters

Sony Announces Another Ghostbusters Sequel

Yesterday, Sony announced their plans to expand on the upcoming Ghostbusters renaissance with a supplementary film that will feature an all-male cast. The recently-announced film will feature an all-star crew working on the film: Joe and Anthony Russo (Captain America: The Winter Soldier) will direct; Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3) will write the script; and Channing Tatum and his partners will produce the film with Tatum in consideration to also star in the film.

In addition to the film announcement, Ghostbusters vets Ivan Reitman and Dan Aykroyd will form a new production company, adequately named Ghostcorps, alongside Sony to expand the franchise into other media to heighten the brand's potential. In an exclusive conversation with Deadline, Reitman explained Ghostcorps' overall plan:

“We want to expand the Ghostbusters universe in ways that will include different films, TV shows, merchandise, all things that are part of modern filmed entertainment. This is a branded entertainment, a scary supernatural premise mixed with comedy. Paul Feig’s film will be the first version of that, shooting in June to come out in July 2016. He’s got four of the funniest women in the world, and there will be other surprises to come. The second film has a wonderful idea that builds on that. Drew will start writing and the hope is to be ready for the Russo Brothers’ next window next summer to shoot, with the movie coming out the following year. It’s just the beginning of what I hope will be a lot of wonderful movies.”

While I'm all for more Ghostbusters films, it seems like this announcement, especially so soon after the confirmation of Paul Feig's all-female Ghostbusters reboot, is a knee-jerk reaction to adhere to the outcry that followed the initial Ghostbusters reboot announcement from a very small, but vocal, percentage. Morever, the announcement was also tied to former Sony executive Amy Pascal's move to the production side of the industry, which paved the way for Ghostcorps to be established. Obviously, details are very sparse about the "guy" Ghostbusters film, so we don't know how it'll support and build off of Feig's film, but it doesn't allow the latter to get time to breathe and gain hype. Instead, I fear that Feig's vision for his Ghostbusters film will be overshadowed by yesterday's announcement.

Current rumors point at yet another shared universe with Tatum and Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy) starring. However, given the failure that was Sony's attempt to create a universe around their The Amazing Spider-Man universe, Sony might not be the best studio to go to for such plans. However, with a core that features well-established players like the Russos and Pearce, the prospect of a large Ghostbusters universe is intriguing.

What do you think? Do you feel this new Ghostbusters announcement will overshadow Feig's Ghostbusters film? Let us know!

HBO Go and PS4

Comcast Blocks HBO Go for PS4 Users

HBO Go finally debuted on Playstation 4s this week. However, PlayStation gamers who are currently subscribed to Comcast are unable to rejoice just yet as it's been revealed that the internet service provider has blocked HBO Go from running on the systems. PlayStation 3 owners have been experiencing the same blockage since last year when the app was released on the system.

It's important to note, however, that other ISPs like AT&T, Verizon, and Time Warner Cable won't block the app from running properly, and gamers on the other side of the fence (e.g. Xbox 360 and Xbox One) are free to enjoy the service without limitations. So why is Comcast blocking the service, which is said to be the best way to experience HBO Go, for the best-selling next-gen gaming system right now?

In a response sent to IGN, Comcast clarified the situation:

"Xfinity customers who subscribe to HBO currently have access to the full HBO library via their set to box, or via Xfinity TV Go platforms across devices. We also currently authenticate more than 90 networks across 18 devices (and we began authenticating HBO and Showtime on Roku last December) so there is no shortage in the number of ways for our customers to access their content across the devices and platforms of their choice."

In short, Comcast further alienates their customer base with their dealings. This isn't to say Comcast subscribers won't forever be unable to experience HBO Go on their PlayStations - it just might take a ridiculously long time for authentication to take place. One thing's clear: Logan Square desperately needs high-speed AT&T service so I can get out of my current Comcast contract.

Avengers: Age of Ultron

[Trailer] Avengers: Age of Ultron

[youtube id="JAUoeqvedMo"]

With May only two short months away, the hype machine is in full motion for Marvel and Disney to pimp out their next film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Avengers: Age of Ultron. Released earlier today thanks to a social media push that saw thousands of fans tweet and share a link for the film, the trailer features all new footage that will be sure to entice any superhero film fanatic.

For those that may not know, Age of Ultron features Iron Man/Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.) developing an artificial intelligence platform to help protect New York. However, the AI becomes sentient and turns on him and the rest of the Avengers, leading Earth's Mightiest Heroes to protect the city from the program they enacted to... protect the city. It all will lead into next year's Captain America: Civil War, which may or may not feature everybody's favorite web-slinger's MCU debut.

Enjoy the latest Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer, and expect a lot more from us when it's released on May 1st.
