Vic Mensa debuts “16 Shots” video, Chicago police shut up video screening
Vic Mensa released his highly anticipated video for his single “16 Shots”. The record is off of his latest EP "There’s A lot Going On”.
Exclusively on Tidal, you can view the video below. It has become the unofficial anthem to the Laquan McDonald shooting. The shooting occurred when then Chicago Police Officer Jason Van Dyke shot and killing McDonald. Shooting him 16 times.
Mensa was set to premiere his music video with those who joined him and the Chicago Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression (CPAC) last night in Chicago. The protest and march was set to end with an exclusive viewing of the music video. Speaking with officials, CPD officers didn’t allow the LCD truck to pull up next to the demonstrators not allowing for the viewing. Another time and location was set for Mensa to screen the video with fans but that too also was prevented by the CPD.
“16 Shots” is bold telling of a single incident that the world is too familiar with. The gritty truth is captured by Mensa. Using the actually recording of the shooting (not the death) creates and highlights the shocking truth that many aren’t aware of. The beautifully crafted story amplifies its message against the police and it’s political repression.
Check out our photos of Mensa at last night’s march and protest for “Justice for Laquan! CPAC Now!”

Black Eyed Peas Ask "Where Is The Love?" Once Again
Thirteen years after releasing their “Where is the Love?” single, the Black Eyed Peas release an updates remake of the song. The group released the video to “#WHERESTHELOVE” this week with over 60 appearances by celebrities and musicians. The video shows visuals of police officers, victims of police brutality, and air strike attacks on children in the Middle East.
Notable celebrities with lines in the song include Diddy, The Game, DJ Khaled, A$AP Rocky, Justin Timberlake, and Usher. Celebrities outside the realm of music include Kendall Jenner, Kris Kenner, Von Miller, Lindsey Vonn, and Russell Westbrook.
The update version of the song touches upon similar topics we face as a society such as terrorism, violence, and war. The 2016 version focuses is on the police with Diddy rapping “Over seas yeah they try to stop terrorism/O`ver here in the streets the police shoot the people but the bullets in them.” The song echoes the same tone as the 2003 version, asking where the love is in this sometimes-hateful world.
In a seperate video, the Blake Eyed Peas discussed the idea behind remaking "Where Is The Love". "I remember when the Paris attack happened, people would say, we need 'Where Is The Love?' again," will.i.am explained. "And then Belgium happened. And then Turkey, and then Orlando, and then Philando, and Alton before him, and then Dallas. Everyone was calling on us, like, 'we need that song again.'" Heres to hoping the love returns.

Last year’s Lollapalooza was solid with a mixture of pop, rock, and electric music. Something that was lacking a bit was the hip-hop and rap performers. Chicago’s own homegrown talent Saba, Towkio, Joey Purp, and Vic Mensa has us covered this year.
Chicago is making a statement with both Joey Purp and Vic Mensa closing off a night at Lollapalooza, respectfully.
Mensa’s history with Lollapalooza is almost story book like. From Mensa's well documented near death experience with sneaking into the festival before his career took off to now closing one of the main stages on Saturday, July 30. Mensa will take the lead in bringing the young Chicago talent to the Lolla stages.
25th anniversary
It’s been twenty-five years since Jane Addiction singer Perry Farrell created Lollapalooza. Lollapalooza was created as a farewell tour for the band. Now Lollapalooza has expanded to international countries like Chile, Brazil, Argentina, and Germany.
Making Lollapalooza an official Chicago music festival in 2005. The festival was hitting the road before then. It first started off as a two-day music festival only bringing in 70 acts. The festival has since exploded cementing it’s place as one of the best music festivals in the country.
Lollapalooza is going big this year making it a can’t miss attraction for years to come.
Extra day, Extra fun
When Lolla makeed Chicago it’s official home in 2005 was a two-day festival. Now eleven years later, Lollapalooza will be doubling up for the first time extending the usual three-day festival into four days.

Vic Mensa releases 'Free Love' ft Lil B, Malik Yusef, Halsey and Le1f
Chicago's own Vic Mensa released 'Free Love' over the weekend. In a post all across his social media platforms, Mensa explains his release.
Mensa on 'Free Love'
"What a moment in time. Love is under attack from all angles. I saw a photo on CNN of 49 birds flying over a vigil they were holding in Orlando for the 49 souls lost at Pulse nightclub. John Lennon once said he didn't fear death, he considered it to be like getting out of one car into another. In the midst of such horrid tragedy, I found beauty in that image. It's stuck with me ever since...Looking at the world around me, I realize now that as a creature of love, the battles of all people fighting to love are also mine. And I will stand with them. Will you?"
Mensa is addressing the attack on a gay Orlando nightclub, Pulse. Which resulted in killing 49 people and injuring dozens more. For the full text visit here.
Mensa recuits Chicago's Malik Yusef, Le1f, Halsey, and Lil B. Respectfully these artists all show their support for the victims of the Orlando attack while supporting Mensa's message of free love for all.
