Broad City Girls and Paul Feig Working on Upcoming Film
Over the past couple of months, my household has become kind of Broad City central. It's rare for a day to go by where I don't, at the very least, re-watch an episode or two of stars Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer's outrageous shenanigans in New York. At a time when comedy actresses and comediennes are rising in ways they haven't before, Broad City serves as one of the pinnacles of contemporary female-centric comedy. If you don't believe me, try watching an episode or two without chuckling at Abbi's inherent awkwardness or Ilana's in-your-face comfort/confidence and the dynamics that each bring to their friendship. It was only a matter of time before the two brought their talents to the silver screen, but that day is finally upon us, and with a Hollywood heavy hitter known for spotlighting hilarious women in comedy.
Jacobson and Glazer are writing a script for their film debut with Paul Feig (Spy, Bridesmaids) on board to produce. As of right now, the actresses are only writing the script, but they could potentially star in the film, as well. It's also pertinent to note that the film will not be a Broad City adaptation. No other information on the film is available.
I can't stress enough: If you have yet to watch Broad City, do so and feel confident knowing the next generation of funny actresses is here.

The Simpsons Renewed for Two More Seasons
It's been awhile since I've actively watched The Simpsons, a product of growing increasingly busy, disinterest in actual TV, and the dwindling level of quality that's been unfortunately associated with the show in recent years. Nevertheless, The Simpsons is a cultural staple, and while its run is slowly winding down, to think of a generation of TV without The Simpsons is near unfathomable.
The inevitable has been delayed a few more years as Fox has renewed The Simpsons for two more seasons, with the run ending at 28 seasons and 625 episodes. /Film points out that the series will be just shy of breaking Gunsmoke's record of longest running scripted prime-time TV episodes at 635, so there's incentive for Fox and The Simpsons to press on past this new order.
Whether you quote The Simpsons everyday or can't tell the difference between Patty and Selma, it's hard to ignore the significance The Simpsons has had on Americana over the past four decades. Whether it can sustain enough energy or momentum to carry it into 2020 will have to be seen in time. One thing's clear: we need more official Simpsons mash-ups.

Dragon Ball Super to Debut This July in Japan
It's been 18 years since Dragon Ball GT ended its original run. Since then, Dragon Ball fans have received a few new movies and specials, the latest of which, Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F', premiered in Japan earlier this month. With almost two decades since the last TV series, the movie specials that have been released in recent years were an anomaly in the anime world where most series won't get receive any official follow-ups beyond the occasional one shot or video game. However, considering just how popular Dragon Ball Z is, if there were to ever be a series to break the mold, it would be this.
Earlier this morning, Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama announced a new Dragon Ball series is set to debut in Japan this July on Fuji TV (and other channels). Entitled Dragon Ball Super, the TV series is set a few years after the end of the Majin Buu Saga. Fuji TV producer Osamu Nozaki had this to say about the series' plot:
As I read the plot [of the series] I've already received from Akira Toriyama, my dreams for this begin to expand. An enemy even stronger than Buu or Freeza may appear...
Masako Nozawa, the Japanese voice actress for Goku, Gohan, and Goten, shared her thoughts on the anime's title:
We've always used the word 'chō' (Super) with Dragon Ball in commercials, games and the like, but the fact that the series titled Dragon Ball Super is beginning is the best thing ever.
There's no word how the series will fit narratively with the latest two movies, the aforementioned Resurrection 'F' and Battle of Gods, but I think it's safe to say the new series will completely ignore Dragon Ball GT's existence. Given the still-existent popularity of Dragon Ball, an English dub of Dragon Ball Super is all but guaranteed, though it may be at least a year before the localization process begins.
What do you think, DBZ fans? Are you excited for more Super Saiyan shenanigans?

Marvel's Daredevil Renewed for Second Season
Marvel's Daredevil has been an amazing success for both Marvel and Netflix. Reviews have been stellar since the entire first season was released on April 10th, further building to Marvel's ability to turn almost everything they touch to gold. With the precedent of quality set for the rest of the upcoming Netflix-exclusive series (Marvel's A.K.A. Jessica Jones is coming later this year while Marvel's Luke Cage is scheduled for 2016 and the other two series, Marvel's Iron Fist and Marvel's Defenders are slated for some indeterminate time in the future), it was only a matter of time before Marvel and Netflix announced a second season of Daredevil.
Sure enough, the second season of Marvel's Daredevil was officially greenlit yesterday. However, a few changes will be made for the hit series' continuation. Steven DeKnight, Season 1's showrunner that took over following Drew Goddard's exit during pre-production, won't be returning due to prior commitments. Instead, Doug Petrie (American Horror Story) and Marco Ramirez (Sons of Anarchy) will both serve as showrunner.
While we absolutely loved Marvel's Daredevil, there's still room for improvement. Hopefully, Petrie and Ramirez are able to recognize some of Season 1's shortcomings to ensure Season 2 will be just as good, if not better. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to re-watch the entire season... again.
