Black Lips: The Full Frontal Tale

Black Lips India

A couple months ago I posted a preview of The Black Lips tour of India, which resulted in their exile from the country.  The good folks a Vice hit me up today to let me know that the full rockumentary is now complete and posted on their site.  See it below, and check out our interview with The Black Lips here.

RTC: Treasurechest's Blog #7

rtc

I got a pocket full of money...looking all bummy...That's pretty much my mood right now, and yes that is both my Grover hand puppet and turntable setup.  It's been raining the past couple of days, and I've been rocking rip jeans, a tee shirt, and my Hyde Park hoodie.  That's also the first time I've written about what I've been wearing, and, sadly, it will most likely be the last one as well.  I am also listening to Shootenanny!, the 2003 LP by The Eels.  If you're unfamiliar, it's a smooth LP full of the right mix of optimism, heartbreak, and sadness. My favorite song on the album is "Lone Wolf"...

RH First Look: Hey Champ

Hey Champ

I learned a few things about Lupe Fiasco's venture into Electro Rock, otherwise known as Hey Champ! over the last week.  They hail from Rockford, IL, they eat a lot of Sultan's Market, and they're damn good at photo shoot ideas.  You can also learn about the Chicago-based trio currently burning up Chicago's underground in this new edition of RH First Look...Check it out below.

[Interview] Hebru Brantley: F**king Awesome

HEBRU

“An artist is someone who constantly creates without having to be told when and where," says Chicago's Hebru Brantley. "They do it from the soul.” Hebru Brantley’s personal definition of what an artist is, also serves as a great definition of himself. Brantley, who has been painting for his entire life, has an arsenal of work behind him.  They range from pieces created in numerous art studios, graffiti done on city bricks and concrete, recognized exhibits, websites and portraits on the walls of some of your favorite retailers such as Leaders. A master of many styles, he has traveled from Chicago, to New York to L.A. to express his very interesting artwork.

Hebru never stops creating, and rarely sleeps.  Just Mos Def claims restlessness to be his number one nemisis, Hebru's main antagonist is time, as there never seems to be enough.  That said, we were able to get the dirty handed painter to put down his brush and answer some questions for us.  Check it out.

GLC X Kanye RH Re-Up

GLC and Kanye

Earlier in the week I posted some footage of GLC and Kanye West previewing music from Love, Live, and Loyalty.  This is a perfect time to do a blog version of a remix (same content presented with a new picture rather than a guest feature), as GL sent me this pic earlier today.  The two were in LA shooting the much anticipated "Big Screen" video.

RH TV: Nick N' Beans Freestyle In The Park

Nick n Beans
I guess you either love or hate Nick N' Beans, at least that's the feeling I get when the young duo comes up in conversation.  Some dismiss them immediately because of their age and style, just as I'm sure some embrace them purely for their associations.  Regardless of sides, both outlooks are wrong, as they fail to give Nick and/or Beans a chance to show and prove...Well, that's what we're all about here at RH, so we open up the park to Nick N' Beans...See them spit below.
