[Video] Schoolboy Q Performs Everywhere In Support of "Oxymoron"

If you haven't heard already, the second wave of TDE just crested and is currently flooding the country with smooth, introspective new-age west coast gangsta rap, courtesy of the bucket-hatted Schoolboy Q. As casual as one can be stepping into the bright lights at the top of the rap world, Q has handled it gracefully thus far, and has been on a marathon pace of performing as of late. The 27-year-old father made recent stops on Conan, where he performed "Studio" with BJ The Chicago Kid, at Arsenio Hall where he killed "Man of the Year" and then, the other night, in a parking lot outside a Hooters from the top of a tour bus with Mac Miller he did "Yay Yay" at a pop-up concert across the street from the Staples Center in Los Angeles. All that on top of the release of Oxymoron isn't bad for a week's work. The live backing band is on point in both late night show performances and the energy at the pop-up show is just an inkling of the power hold TDE has over the genre of hip-hop today. Schoolboy Q hits the Wilbur Theatre in Boston, MA on March 2 to kick off the "Oxymoron World Tour". Check out the videos below.

[Video] Jordan Bratton: "Stranger"

Jordan Bratton, an 18-year-old 'alternative R&B' singer from Long Island, New York dropped a hell of a debut project in December of last year called The Grey Area. Endlessly compared to Justin Bieber because of his age and talent, Bratton possess an edge and brevity to his voice that is lost on his 19-year-old Canadian peer. The project, which left room to grow, also established Bratton on a larger scene as a vocalist to take note of. Similar to the way Frank Ocean's 2011 project, Nostalgia/Ultra got insiders and music aficionados talking, The Grey Area may be the vessel Bratton needs to break out of his hometown in New York. The video for one of the standout tracks on the project, "Stranger" got a visual today, premiering on The Guardian. Thus far, Bratton has kept his face and identity somewhat out of the public sphere, allowing for the tracks to be the focus of listeners. In the video for "Stranger", directed by Ronald Reid, the camera follows Bratton on his journey to the studio via BMX bike. As the story goes, Bratton, who lives in Long Island, travels across the boroughs to make his music. Check out the full video for "Stranger" below, with the full stream/DL of The Grey Area.

[Album] LIZ: "Just Like You"

LIZ has been popping up all over our radar since just before the start of the new year. The Los Angeles-based Mad Decent signee may very well be the best example of the theory of a "twenty year loop" in fashion, media, art and music. Her website literally has the Millennium embedded into the title and is a templated Google Image search page. Her music pulls from the early 2000s, adding the grungy dance vibes of today's EDM world with the angelic-ness of artists like Aaliyah to produce a sound that is described on her Mad Decent profile as "reminiscent of that perfect Pop/R&B tune from the 90s that you couldn’t wait to burn onto a CD so you could play it endlessly in your car after dropping your summer crush off at their house." Great imagery there. Honestly, just try LIZ on for yourself. Her project, Just Like You hit the Internet yesterday and the complete, seven-song project is sure to be talked about for some time. Pick it up/listen below!

[Songs of the Day] 2/27/14 (Feat. Chance The Rapper, King Krule, LIZ & More)

It got colder in the Midwest today. And new music came out. As I sit shivering at my computer, I can only be glad that the Internet brought us some heat today. Ace B8gie gave fans a new version of the instant classic "Fuck A Plan B" enlisting the likes of Creative Control, Young Giftz & Saba for the remix while Chance The Rapper hopped on the soundtrack to the new movie "Divergent" by hopping on "Fight For You" with Pia Mia. Zella Day gave listeners a light new song in "Sweet Ophelia" and RAC released "Tear You Down" featuring Alex EbertEvian Christ dropped the first single off his upcoming album in the glitch-filled ride that is his latest track, "Waterfall" and LIZ celebrated the drop of her project in style, tapping Tyga for "Don't Say". We also got a remix of King Krule'"Neptune Escape" from Travi$ Scott and another solid new track from newcomer Joyner Lucas in "Jurisdiction".

[Video] King L: "Tony"

King L's latest banger, "Tony", off his recently-released mixtape Drilluminati 2 is a mafioso dream cut with shot os L's harrowing live shows donning a three piece suit. The song and the video create an interesting aesthetic for the 27-year-old artist from Chicago and calls to mind a young Jay-Z going the same route when his career had hit a breaking point, a decision which ultimately vaulted him to the top of hip-hop for years to come and allowed him to re-write the narrative that had followed him to that point. The points in career are much different, King L largely holds his destiny in his own hands, but perhaps the sentiment makes sense. "My name is Louie, but they call me Tony" is simple, yet packed with meaning and braggadocio and the suits and overall motif may well be a direction King L wants to keep traveling down. Chance also makes a cameo, keep an eye out for that. Full video, from WorldStarHipHop below.

[Songs of the Day] 2/26/14 (Feat. Vic Mensa, DâM-FunK, Njomza)

Wednesday offered up a bountiful harvest of new releases from across the music spectrum and I have all of it here for you to sift through yourself. Starting things off is Vic Mensa who teamed up with rising local producer Smoko Ono for the club banger in "Feel That", which shows off Smoko's electro-infused hip-hop production. Tensnake & Jacques Lu Cont linked up with Jamie Lidell for the 80s-esque, synth heavy "Feel of Love" while DâM-FunK continued a productive start to 2014 with his newest single, "Love Is Above" and 19-year-old French producer, Madeon capitalized on his credits from Lady Gaga's ARTpop album by dropping his latest mix, "Cut The Kid". Rico Love followed up his major release "They Don't Know" by pondering what women want on "Bitches be Like", Hurt Everybody gives fans a new one in "Anibus" and another talented Chicago product, Njomza showed off her powerful vocals on "Sowing Season". [Video] Moody Good: "MusicBx" (Feat. Eryn Allen Kane)

Moody Good is the English producer, formerly a part of production team 16Bit that helped craft Bjork's 2011 album, Biophilia responsible for the latest track to come out of the always popping UK dance music scene with his track, "Musicbx" that came complete with a visual rendering today with a premier on NME.com. The video traces what seems like one man's stumbling post-trip experience as he wanders, looking for something and finding a lot of what he doesn't need. Vocals for the track are supplied by one of our artists to watch out of Chicago, Eryn Allen Kane, who shows her full flexibility with this latest offering by taking a step outside the soul/r&b vibes that she has been linked to thus far. She continues to impress as she heads toward her own album release soon. Moody Good keeps the song going and lays out a solid canvas from which Kane can work with his expert production and playfulness throughout. Check out the full video for the song, streaming now below.
