[RH Premiere] #100Trill: "Chain Clean"

My LOD brothers are back at it with their next #100Trill drop, "Chain Clean." MikeJaxx steps back up to the mic to remind everybody he has as many bars as he has beats. Grade Aplus, in turn, drops another solid verse with his laid back delivery. Make sure you catch that Harold's reference in there, where it's the only acceptable place to get mild over hot sauce. "Chain Clean" had me take out the Pennies in My Pocket, buying some TurnUpSnacks, then taught me how to keep it 100Trill. You see what I did there?

Check out the song below, and if you haven't yet, make sure you pick up Grade APlus' #TurnUpSnacks here.

[RH Premiere] JDott Trife: "Homicide"

"I heard them say we done doubled the murder rate/Shit is so crazy, make Obama wanna relocate."

JDott Trife's newest song, "Homicide," preaches the unfortunate truth that many Chicagoans have to face on a daily basis. While the Chicago rapper paints a picture of inner-city life with his lyrics, the video, directed by Sense Hernandez, depicts a day in the life of a young teenager trying to get his come up in the drug-filled streets. Songs like "Homicide" are necessary to provide commentary on the realities of "street" life and the potential consequences that come from it.

Jdott Trife's album, FYF - The Plug, is dropping on June 4th. You can watch the video for "Homicide" and read JDott Trife's thoughts on the song below.

Although the title is very bold and straight forward, "Homicide" is not a song glorifying violence, but simply raising awareness of the current homicides occurring in the inner city of Chicago. The video shows the day in a life of a young teenage boy growing up in an inner-city Chicago neighborhood and how he is influenced by the "Hustler lifestyle" that ultimately leads him to an early demise.

The video was shot and edited by Sense Hernandez of Beast Factory Films.

The song was written by JDott Trife and produced by Nascent & Q.B

"Homicide" is off of JDott Trife's upcoming indie album, FYF - The Plug due out on June 4th, 2013. The project features Astonish, Calliko, Lungz, Blanco Caine, and Bodi Deeder with production from DJ O- ZoNe , Nascent  & Q.B, and Wes P.

[RH Premiere] Netherfriends: "Good Vibes" (feat. ShowYouSuck and ELEE X)

Netherfriends is kicking up quite a storm this year. Outside of the very ambitious 50 Songs, 50 States project, he has an album called New Chi-t scheduled for June 21st featuring songs from, you guessed it, Chicago musicians. We're lucky to be premiering the latest song from New Chi-t, "Good Vibes on a Sunny Day," featuring ShowYouSuck and ELEE X from Impolite Society.

The video follows Netherfriends' practice of editing classic video footage juxtaposed with the song itself to create a dichotomy between the song and the footage. "Good Vibes" samples The Beach Boys' "Good Vibrations," but with a trippy mix. ShowYouSuck and ELEE X trade verses over footage of surfers from the 1966 film, The Endless Summer, followed by a tempo/tonal change halfway through the song, making a creative spin on the characteristic "drops" in most popular music these days.

You can download the song and watch the video below. If you're free on Monday, you can catch Netherfriends live at the Empty Bottle for free. If you're not free on Monday, cancel your plans so you can catch Netherfriends live at the Empty Bottle for free.

[RH Premiere] Weasel Sims: "Ride Out" (feat. Tae Butch) (prod. by MikeJaxx)

MikeJaxx has been keeping extra busy this week (as if he doesn't stay busy already). With his remix of Chance the Rapper's "Juice" and production on the amazingly well-received Grade Aplus track "Nate Robinson" making the rounds the past few days, Jaxx is ending the week on a high note with this new track, "Ride Out" for rapper Weasel Sims (and featuring Tae Butch).

You can check out the song below. I get a feeling we'll be hearing a lot more from Weasel Sims this year...

[RH Premiere] Grade Aplus: "Nate Robinson" (prod. by Mike Jaxx)

Despite it being Wednesday, it's already been a big week for the Legion of Dudes: Nick Astro had his SUPER16 listening party, Mike Jaxx released his remix of Chance the Rapper's "Juice," Impolite Society released their remix of "Look of Hate," and PHNM released his original mix, "This Is It." Not one to simply rest on his laurels, Grade Aplus is jumping into this unofficial LOD week by releasing his latest track, "Nate Robinson."

Produced by Ruby Hornet veteran Mike Jaxx, the track plays up Grade's underdog status, yet stepping up despite the odds. Sounds very similar to the Bulls' surprising emerging 3rd string point guard, no? Don't sleep on Grade Aplus and check the track out below.

[RH Premiere] Jarred A.G.: Luxury Tax

luxury-tax-banner

After both a First Listen on Jarred A.G.'s single "Play Around" and a First Look on the emerging Chicago act, we're now proud to premiere his debut project Luxury Tax. Featuring appearances from Dally Auston and Ibn Inglor, there is a presence of youthful Chicagoans imbued in the tracks. Couple that with fire production from Jarred's brother and frequent collaborator Smoko Ono, as well as C-Sick, Samiyam and Benny Nice. After experimenting with hip hop for only "a year and a half", he's got an extensive catalog, and the Luxury Tax EP is seemingly only the tip of the iceberg. The six track EP comes across as a cohesive product and is a great introduction to the young artist. Listen below and stay on the lookout for more from A.G.
