[Mixtape] Netherfriends: "Beats in Bed"
Production wizard Netherfriends doesn't exactly have a bed right now. Having spent the past month or so on the road touring America with Rich Jones and currently in the midst of what he calls an "endless tour" that has spanned three years, a bed is more of a luxury than an expectation. It is because of this reason that, after returning to Chicago for two weeks not moving anywhere, he was so excited to spend some time relaxing in his girlfriend's bed after she left for work each day. In his words, "She would go to work during the day and because I didn't have a winter coat, I never wanted to leave the house... or the bed."
Thus, Beats in Bed was made. Ever pumping out new creative content, Netherfriends was able to craft a project that is centered loosely around Ethiopian Jazz samples while adding the drum sequences live from on top of the sheets. As for what's on the horizon: "I have a new single from my first studio album P3ACE. The song is called Joey Vision. It's the most epic song about mediocrity. Plus 6 Kind Of Buzzed volumes that I still need to release. I am heading to Austin in December to mix and finish my garage rock album Logan Square and Kanye sample album Netherfriends Goes West." Netherfriends has been crisscrossing the country for awhile now, spreading funky tunes far and wide, he deserved a rest, we're just lucky he doesn't stop working when does so. The summer of Netherfriends has come to an end here in Chicago as the talented producer heads off with Rich Jones for a multi-city tour over the next few weeks. Relive the crazy few months of production with this live video shot by Fragd Films featuring Netherfriends and his signature light up drumsticks create in real time. Chicago transplant and current in-house producer at Kimball House Netherfriends has been making a name for himself all summer around the Windy City with experimental production and raucous live performances with the likes of Chandler London, Impolite Society and more. Today, Netherfriends teams up with London again to take a spin behind the mic on "Sex Beat" off his Kanye West sample album, Netherfriends Goes West, due out soon. Check out the video below.

[EP] Netherfriends: "Kind of Buzzed vol. 3"
The third installment of Netherfriends' Kind of Buzzed project is here. Featuring Chandler London, Grade Aplus, Cody DeCamry, and The Dutchmaster rapping over Netherfriends' beats, Kind of Buzzed vol. 3 adds the extra element of mushrooms into the equation. Kind of Buzzed vol. 3 was recorded over the summer in the Kimball House backyard in front of friends and associates during a barbecue.
With the 6th volume recorded last week, keep your eyes peeled for the last three volumes over the next few weeks. If you've somehow missed out on Volume 1 and Volume 2, you can download them together or separately with Volume 3 on Netherfriends' Official Bandcamp.
Netherfriends: "Raven-Symone Freestyle" (feat. Grade Aplus)
Following up the Netherfriends X Chandler London "Shrooms Freestyle" is Grade Aplus' "Raven-Symone Freestyle" from the live recording of Kind of Buzzed, vol. 3. Astute readers/listeners will notice that the first portion of the freestyle is an excerpt from Grade's "Baby Grades," but the LOD rapper changes it up a bit, ending with a giggle for the ages. "Raven-Symone Freestyle" was also mastered by Chris Classick of Classic Studios to give it an extra layer of shine.
Remember, recording for Kind of Buzzed, vol. 6 Round 2 has been rescheduled to take place at Cafe Mustache on September 6th. Details for the night can be found on Facebook. The recording will follow a listening party of Kind of Buzzed, vol. 3, as well.

[RH Video Premiere] Netherfriends 8/20 Bust

Earlier this month, Netherfriends set out to make Kind of Buzzed, vol. 6 as special as it could be, and what's more special than recording in front of a live audience on top of a rooftop in Chicago at sunset? Unfortunately, like all fun things in Chicago, the cops came and busted the party. Netherfriends, however, was able to record a few beats where he chopped up Coltrane's "A Love Supreme" before we were forced to leave. My good friend FragD Films was also able to shoot some footage of the shortened set, resulting in the "Netherfriends 8/20 Bust" video that you can watch below.

[RH Premiere] Netherfriends: "Shrooms Freestyle" (feat. Chandler London)
Netherfriends' evolving Kind of Buzzed concept has been pretty popular, attracting a good mix of musicians and acclaim, demonstrated by Netherfriends' in-store performance at Jugrnaut earlier this month for the Kind of Buzzed vol. 5 recording. Back in July, Netherfriends recorded Kind of Buzzed vol. 3 in the Kimball House backyard alongside Chandler London, Grade Aplus, and Cody DeCamry.
Today, we're premiering the first release from that recording, "Shrooms Freestyle" with young Chandler. With the established concept of Netherfriends' improvised instrumentation paired with rappers' freestyles, an extra element was introduced: psilocybin mushrooms. While Chandler was under the influence (kind of buzzed, so to speak) at the beginning of the song, you can hear the effect the shrooms had on his freestyle. Say what you will about illicit drug use; it's still impressive for the musicians function enough to rap at the level they were able to for Kind of Buzzed vol. 3.
Netherfriends will be performing at the Subterranean tonight alongside indie bands When Clouds Attack and The Octopus Project. Tickets for the show can be bought here. The Summer of Netherfriends is preparing to close out with a bang, so continue paying attention.
