[Video] Netherfriends: "Never Walk Out On You"

Netherfriends has been consistently making great music for some time now, but has just recently begun dabbling in film. For "Never Walk Out On You" he teamed up with Impolite Society and shot a home made video at their recording studio, Kimball House. Elee and Westley do their thing, capped by an epic 30 second shot of Westley's angry face. Check out the video below and check out the whole team September 14 for Kimball House Rock.

Netherfriends: "Kind of Buzzed vol. 2"

Following the previous drops of Chandler London's "Ode to Joy Freestyle" and Swords the Ronin's "Black Belt Freestyle," Netherfriends' second entry in his freestyle/improvised series, Kind of Buzzed, is upon us. Featuring the aforementioned rappers and LOD/#100Trill rapper Grade Aplus and Second City Citizen member Rich Jones, Kind of Buzzed vol. 2 features a mastered mix of the set that was recorded live at Cafe Mustache last month. As the series continues to grow, Netherfriends is offering a range of rappers a platform to showcase their talents over original instrumentation while also allowing outside audiences a glimpse at how the magic happens.

If you want to be a part of that magic, make sure you attend the live recording of Netherfriends' Kind of Buzzed vol. 4 at Jugrnaut on August 16th. If you can't attend, the least you can do is check out the listening/release party for Kind of Buzzed vol. 2 tonight at the aforementioned Cafe Mustache, complete with a live beat/freestyle set. Who knows? Maybe you can be featured on a future Kind of Buzzed installment.

[RH Premiere] Netherfriends: "Ode to Joy Freestyle" (feat. Chandler London)

The Summer of Netherfriends continues with a mastered (!) version of Chandler London's and Netherfriend's "Ode to Joy Freestyle" from the latter's live recording of Kind of Buzzed vol. 2 at Cafe Mustache last month. Chandler's talent for free word association is demonstrated to its fullest on this song. Chandler's vocals are backed up by a very funky, synth-heavy beat from Netherfriends.

You can listen to "Ode to Joy Freestyle" below, and if you're daring enough, you can check out the cinema verite live footage I shot of the performance. (Trust me, the mastered version is a lot better than the video, haha!)

[RH Video Premiere] Netherfriends: "Summer Sex" (feat. Auggie the 9th)

This week has been a hot one all across the country. It's hard not to step outside without becoming a moist mess. All of that sweat and dirt isn't a good look. But hey, why fight the weather when you can throw some sexual shenanigans into the mix? The aptly titled "Summer Sex" by recent music sensation and Pitchfork alumni Netherfriends and rap game superstar Auggie the 9th was featured on the former's hip hop album, New CHI-t.

The two teamed up with video vet (and LOD brother) FragD films to deliver a music video that definitely won't help with the heat. Glimpses of tantalizing, soft-focused lady silhouettes are contrasted by side profiles of Auggie and Netherfriends as they vocalize their support for some summer sex. This is one of FragD films' best videos to date.

The video drops just in time for Pitchfork goers to prepare for the weekend and sweaty couples to get even sweatier.  Don't fight the heat; just give into the most carnal of desires and let Auggie the 9th's and Netherfriends' smooth melodies and deep baritones be your soundtrack for the moment...s.

Netherfriends: "Uptown Boys"

Did you ever think you could live this way? Did you ever think you could ever say? "I'm living my dreams until the day I die. I'm living my dreams until the day I die."

Netherfriends certainly has been living his dreams over the past few years. Song after song, project after project, he has amassed a large catalog of music over a relatively short period of time (this summer alone has seen New CHI-tKind of Buzzed vol. 1, and 50 Songs 50 States with more to come). Today, the first look at his first studio album, the indie-tinged P3ACE, was premiered by SPIN.

"Uptown Boys" shares some of Netherfriends' catchy indie-pop sensibilities. Remember when I said this was going to be "The Summer of Netherfriends"? I can guarantee "Uptown Boys" will be your favorite song of the summer. It'll only take a few listens before you begin singing the chorus out loud and into the summer sky.

[RH Video] Netherfriends: "Black Belt Freestyle" (feat. Swords the Ronin)

The unofficial "Summer of Netherfriends" continues with this first look at the artist's Kind of Buzzed vol. 2. Shot at a recent show at Cafe Mustache by the enigmatic Geoff Henao (who is that guy?), "Black Belt Freestyle" features Swords the Ronin freestyling over Netherfriends' musical improvisations. For those that don't remember, the Kind of Buzzed series features Netherfriends playing instrumental improvisations while local rappers spit freestyles over them. It's a great concept that not only showcases Netherfriends' versatility, but also spotlights the rappers' rapbilities.

You can also listen to "Black Belt Freestyle" sans video below. The entire Kind of Buzzed vol. 2 should be coming out soon, so keep your eyes (and ears) open for that.

[Mixtape] Netherfriends: "New CHI-t"

Netherfriends has been a very busy man lately. Besides preparing the full release for his 50 Songs 50 States project next week on America's birthday, the fully improvised Kind of Buzzed series, as well as his kind of, sort of low key album, P3ACE, Netherfriends has been compiling all of his collaborations with a large number of Chicagoan rappers. Today, we bring you the full release, New CHI-t.

Featuring ShowYouSuck, Jams Dean, Auggie the 9th, theWHOevers, ELEE X, Blakkass Westley, Rich Jones, Fess Grandiose, Mig Mora, and Divino Nino, New CHI-t finds the rappers dropping rhymes alongside Netherfriends' eclectic instrumentals and vocal features. Some personal favorites include "Numero Uno" with Chandler London and Mig Mora, "Full of It" with ShowYouSuck, "Jurassic Park 5" featuring theWHOevers, and "Frankfort, KY" featuring Blakkass Westley. The mixtape is a prime example of just how versatile Netherfriends can be with his music. The summer of Netherfriends has only begun, as the aforementioned 50 Songs 50 States, P3ACE, and subsequent Kind of Buzzed installments will be coming out over the season, too. Who knows? There might be some more tricks up Netherfriends' sleeves.

As a reminder, you can celebrate the release of New CHI-t tonight at the Burlington Bar! Kimball House Productions has put together quite the show with Impolite Society, Fess Grandiose (happy birthday!), Chandler London, Shazam Bangles, and The Minneapolis Henrys will also be on tap to support Netherfriends. Details on the record release party can be found here. I hope you all enjoy New CHI-t as much as I do.
