The Weekly Swarm: 5/27 - 6/1
We had a steady influx of music drops this week, didn't we? Shintendo64 dropped TERRABYTZ, De la Soul made their video return with "Get Away," Vic Mensa teased and dropped the "Orange Soda" video, Sir Michael Rocks finally released While You Wait..., GhostWridah got into the mixtape fun with Flu Game, and Sulaiman and Vic Spencer dropped their collaborative EP, We're Still Disappointed, and ShowYouSuck debuted a new sound with "Watching Walking Dead" (with some pretty amazing artwork, right?). We also had a collection of great movie trailers debut, including Machete Kills, This is the End, and Prisoners.

Google Adds New Video Features to YouTube Videos

A few days after Impolite Society dropped their summer honeydip anthem "Player Shit," they took to the stage at the Double Door with an energetic set. Each member of the group, consisting of ELEE X, Blakkass Westley, Khalfani, and Sidewalk Kal (with Fess Grandiose DJing and taking a turn at the mic), took turns trading verses in front of a well-sized audience. Nothing beats seeing ImSo live as each rapper displays their contrasting styles, both in stage presence and lyrical delivery/content.
If you haven't seen Impolite Society live, you can catch them at the Tonic Room tomorrow with Second City Citizens, Epic, Moore + Watch City, Matt Black + MC Friendly, with DJ Elliven spinning throughout the night. Information for the show is here.

[RH Photos] Anamanaguchi (Live at Lincoln Hall 5/25/2013)
Last Friday, popular chiptune band Anamanaguchi released the video for their latest single, "Endless Fantasy." As someone who was marginally aware of them, I found myself replaying the video over and over throughout the day, then found myself attaining a ticket to their show at Lincoln Hall the next day. I took some photos of Anamanaguchi while their fans dancing and crowd surfed to the band's noted video game sound-effect laden instrumentation. I actually had a lot of fun amidst the stage setup complete with flashing neon-colored lights and animated 8-bit sprite GIFs It definitely was a different change of pace to the hip hop shows I've spent the past year attending.

How's everybody's Memorial Day weekend going so far? I hope everybody's spent their Sunday reuniting with the Bluth family with Netflix's release of Arrested Development season 4. Or maybe you're all celebrating with Chance the Rapper at his two sold-out Chicago shows at The Metro? However you're spending this holiday weekend, stay cool and safe. We had a great week here at Ruby Hornet; Microsoft debuted their next console, Xbox One, Action Bronson dropped his amazing video for "Strictly 4 My Jeeps," Chuck Inglish pulled the curtains back for his EP, Droptops, I reviewed the weekend's top box office film, Fast & Furious 6, and we had two amazing Chicago music videos drop in JDott Trife's "Homicide" and the long-awaited "La Clika" by Scheme. The good people over at Esquire, has featured the very beautiful and talented Olivia Munn in its latest issue. Munn, no stranger to being a goof or taking herself too seriously, shows off her acting chops on the hit HBO series Newsroom (Season 2 starts July 14th). In typical Esquire fashion, photographer Kayt Jones hit the poolside with Munn in this new photo spread. Jones takes a simple, but sexy approach to showcase why we are all in love with Olivia. Her carefree attitude shines through, whether if it's eating a lollipop or shooting squirt guns. I think we can all say that we wish we were there.

The Weekly Swarm: 5/13 - 5/19
It was a pretty huge week for Ruby Hornet. We had a lot of notable drops, including Tree's Sunday School 2, Grade Aplus' "Nate Robinson," Calez' G-Unit Bundle Pack, Pyyramids' performance of "Paper Doll" live on Jay Leno, and the made-for-summer jam, "Good Vibes" by Netherfriends featuring ShowYouSuck and ELEEX from Impolite Society. In movie news, there's the possibility of Christopher Nolan directing Bond 24, the new trailer for V/H/S/2, and special closed-captioning glasses for the hearing impaired coming to theaters, amongst other awesome stuff that happened last week.
