[The Weekly Swarm] 2/9 - 2/15

After a short Sundance-caused break, The Weekly Swarm has finally returned to our regularly scheduled Monday mornings. Last week was a huge week for Ruby Hornet. Not only did we have our Sundance Film Festival 2015 recap video up and ready, we also had an exclusive video interview with Spike Lee and Zaraah Abrahams for Lee's latest film, Da Sweet Blood of Jesus, a review for said film, Hubert's editorial on Jon Stewart's departure from The Daily Show, news that Spider-Man is officially joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Bridjet's Friday the 13th-inspired playlist and artist-inspired cocktails, and much, much more. Check out all of last week's content below!

[The Weekly Swarm] 1/12 - 1/18

Last week marked the beginning of the road to the Oscars for the film industry. Following last Sunday's Golden Globes, the list of Oscars nominations was released on Thursday, and with it came controversy over the perceived lack of diversity amongst the nominees. Outside of the film spectrum, Nick shared his top 25 favorite episodes of The Simpsons, Madison shared her recap of the Bowie Birthday Bash at the Metro (featuring some amazing photos from Brett Bergen), and I had the chance to talk with rising UFC star Paige VanZant. Check out all of this and more in this week's Weekly Swarm.

The Weekly Swarm: 1/5 - 1/11

With the first full week of 2015 in the books, it's safe to say our team has a pretty good idea of the site's direction going forward. We're still holding tight on pulling the trigger on all of the changes, but slowly but surely, you'll see some of our new ideas surface over the weeks to come.

This past week was a very TV-heavy week, given the beginning of the new year. Travis revisited Six Feet Under and how it had an impact on him, Bridjet shared her top/bottom 10 TV shows to watch/avoid in 2015, and Travis also argued why Shameless is the most overlooked show on cable right now. Outside of TV, Hubert does what he does best, editorializing on everything under the sun, with this week's entries on the Charlie Hebdo situation out in France and the trials and tribulations of adapting real life for films.

Check out all of this and more below.

The Weekly Swarm: 12/29 - 1/4

As I've written plenty of times over the past year, 2014 was a year of growth and development here at Ruby Hornet. We toyed with ideas, tested others, and came upon a framework in which we could develop and focus on in 2015. It might be some time until the scope of what we're exploring is visible, but the wait will be well worth it.

Over the past couple of weeks, we've been sharing some of our year-end lists, which made up the majority of last week's content. In addition to those, we also have a recap from American Football's New Year's Day show, Paul Feig's plans for his Ghostbusters film, and more! Check everything out below.

2014 was a great year of progress here at Ruby Hornet. 2015 will see even more progress and evolution, and while it might take some time for all of the moving parts to gel together, I can promise the final product will be well worth the wait. Thank you to everybody that's been along for the ride - you're awesome.

With the holiday last week, we had a bit of a half-week. I also imagine this week will be more of the same. However, we'll still be rocking some quality content. If you missed out on any of our stuff last week because of family get-togethers, The Weekly Swarm has you covered!

The last full week of 2014 is here, so I hope you're all able to finish this New Year's Resolutions in time and get some good karma under your belt in time for Christmas. We'll probably have a shortened week due to the holiday, so re-visit some of last week's content to keep your minds going, including articles like Travis' review of Danny Brown's recent Chicago show, Obama's announcement that the US will resume diplomatic talks with Cuba, an analysis of the different philosophies found in Interstellar and 2001, exactly what's going on between North Korea and Sony, LA's initiative to equip its cops with body cameras, and more!

Ruby Hornet's The Weekly Swarm

The Weekly Swarm: 12/8 - 12/14

It's the middle of December in Chicago, yet we just had a 50 degree weekend. Is this a sign of the end of days? Global warming? Aren't the two basically the same thing? Whatever the case, it was a great weekend in the Midwest's only city that actually matters, which served as the perfect end to a great week here at Ruby Hornet. If you missed out on any of the content we published, you can check the full list below, including Xander's thoughts on the CIA torture report, Bridjet's editorial on taking a heavy metal college discourse, my review of The Sheik, Hubert's analysis of Inherent Vice, and Elaine Constantine's 9 Kisses photos and short film series.

PSA: If you have a gas heater/furnace in your apartment, be careful operating it. I spent the majority of the past two weeks suffering from acute carbon monoxide poisoning, and it was not a good look. Make sure you have your heaters inspected by your landlord or gas utility man, have your carbon monoxide detectors up to date, and show general care when using them. I lucked out, but who knows what may happen in the future without the proper care?

Now that that's off my chest, we had a pretty solid week at Ruby Hornet with some features from a few new faces. We'll have many new writers coming out of the woodwork over the next couple of weeks, and we'll give them a proper introduction then. For now, revisit last week's content, including our video from Vic Mensa's show at the Metro, Travis's editorial on why Rick and Morty is the best show on TV, Xander's thoughts on England censoring women in British porn, the all-star cast announcement for DC's Suicide Squad, Rachel's editorial on photographer Jimmy Nelson's book, Before They Pass Away, and more below!
