[Trailer 2] 22 Jump Street
[youtube id="H75QBaIBhB0"]
A new trailer for 22 Jump Street was released yesterday. Riding high on 22 Jump Street writers' Phil Lord and Chris Miller's written/directorial success with The Lego Movie, the lens on 22 Jump Street has been heightened a bit. This second trailer for 22 Jump Street is admittedly similar to the first trailer released in December. However, it features an "alternate ending" that is definitely worth rehashing the same footage for.
Following the events of 21 Jump Street, Schmidt (Jonah Hill) and Jenko (Channing Tatum) continue on with the 21 Jump Street initiative, this time moving to a church across the street, hence the film's title of 22 Jump Street. In their new assignments, the two infiltrate a local college to bust a crime ring being run by a fraternity. However, as is expected, the two face different circumstances that throws their friendship and their lives into question.
22 Jump Street will be jumping into theaters on June 13th.
[Trailer] Honour
Honour, actor-turned-director Shan Khan's next film, sounds like a good one. With the title acting as a reference to honor killings, the film is about a young Muslin woman (Aiysha Hart) who runs off with her boyfriend (Nikesh Patel) with plans of eloping. Dismayed by their daughter's actions, her family hires an assassin to kill her. However, the plan doesn't work out so well, so a bounty hunter (The World's End's Paddy Considine) is contracted to track her. The premise is a bit crazy, but the trailer hit on all of the right notes. It's a thriller through and through, with a hint of a political agenda in it. Above all else, it features Considine acting as a total badass, so how can you turn that down? Khan has claimed that Honour is a modern thriller twist on Romeo & Juliet, but that feels like too much of a stretch. Still, I can see the allegory fitting the film's premise... a bit.
Honour hits British theaters on April 4th with no set American release date.
[Review] The Tontons: "Make Out King and Other Stories of Love"
Hailing from Houston, groovy foursome The Tontons put themselves on the national radar with their brand new, soulful album The Make Out King and Other Stories of Love. Out officially today, the album has been streaming for the past couple weeks, inviting listeners to experience the buzz of The Tontons magnetic record before they can get their hands on a copy.
The band (singer Asli Omar, bassist Tom Nguyen, drummer Justin Martinez and guitarist Adam Martinez) have been together for the long haul, pumping out their seductive rock sound to everyone who would give them a chance. The Tontons don't fit into any one genre, but instead spread themselves over an array of sounds leaving you reeling and wondering how you are going to describe them to your friends.
"Our song is as random as our look. Like, you look at us and people usually don’t know what to expect or what we’re going to sound like, I think we like to keep people on their toes," Omar said during an interview with Ruby Hornet's own Jake Krez at Fun Fun Fun Fest 2013.
Make Out King comes out of the gate with the up-beat single "Magic Hour," which I believe is the best way to start off the album. This song is currently my favorite. It's surfer rock vibe eases you into the song only to blow you away with Omar's powerful, thick vocals. Her voice has a sultry rawness that reminds me of Amy Winehouse at times, mixed with a belty, strong sound of Genevieve Shatz from Chicago outfit Company of Thieves. Weird match up, I know, but oh so good.
The album plays a bit of tug-o-war between a fresh pop-rock sound and steamy, laid back, blues-y R&B ballads like "Kidd Cemetery." This song really stuck out to me because of it's sexy, cosmic sound and revealing lyrics. Omar sings "I hurt, you hurt, but it's all in fun." The album seems to be extremely personal, allowing listeners to envelop themselves in the stories. In "Bones 1," Omar sings about daunting life decisions like having children, getting a 9 to 5 and settling down almost as if she's convincing herself: "Today's not that day, I'm not that girl."
The Make Out King and Other Stories of Love shimmers, radiating strength and sadness, all the while making you want to dance. The buzz and boldness of the bass from Ngyunen, the sick dynamic riffs from guitarist Adam Martinez, and the steady super tight beats from Justin Martinez, operate smoothly with passion and precision allowing Asli Omar to wail and whisper over the tracks with deep lustrous vocals.
You can and should snag the album on The Tontons bandcamp or iTunes today!
Three New Guardians of the Galaxy Stills
Guardians of the Galaxy is my most-anticipated Hollywood film of the year. Not only does it have an amazingly talented cast (from Parks and Recreation's Chris Pratt to American Hustle's Bradley Cooper to even Fast and Furious' Vin Diesel), it also represents a new tentpole for Marvel Studios, let alone a large expansion into the under-utilized cosmic realm of the company's spectrum.
Tonight, the first official trailer for the film will debut tonight exclusively on Jimmy Kimmel Live! However, a small handful of new film stills have been released ahead of the footage debut. The images, which you can see below, showcase the Guardians' ship, a close-up of Pratt's Star Lord, and a group shot featuring the Guardians of the Galaxy themselves (Zoe Saldana's Gamora, Cooper's Rocket Raccoon, Pratt's Star Lord, Diesel's Groot, and Dave Bautista's Drax the Destroyer).
You can definitely expect to see the first trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy tomorrow. For now, enjoy these new images!
2014 BAFTA Film Awards Winners
Last night, the 2014 British Academy of Film and Television Arts' Film Awards ceremony took place, serving as the final major awards ceremony until next month's Academy Awards. Gravity took the majority of the awards, including Sound, Original Film Music, Cinematography, and Director, but it was the slave drama 12 Years a Slave that took the top honor as Best Film of the Year.
Both films will ride on the high into March's Oscars. My personal underdog selection for the Academy Awards' Best Picture has always been 12 Years a Slave, and with both BAFTA and the Golden Globes awarding it their Best (Drama) Film awards, it's very likely that the Steve McQueen-helmed film could sweep at the Oscars. However, it's very realistic that American Hustle could come in and steal Best Picture.

Michael Keaton and Tim Burton Have Discussed Beetlejuice Sequel
Could Beetlejuice himself be coming back to the world of the living?
Astute readers may remember that rumors arose about director Tim Burton returning to the ghastly series after a quarter-century since the film was released. Then, like all good things, those rumors were confirmed the following day. The next piece of the puzzle quickly fell in place, as Winona Ryder expressed her interest in portraying Lydia Deetz once more... as long as Burton and the aforementioned Keaton were involved.
It appears that preliminary talks have indeed taken place to ensure Keaton returns to the black and white. In an interview with MTV, Michael Keaton addressed the rumors of a Beetlejuice sequel being planned:
"I've e-mailed Tim a couple of times, talked to the writer a couple of times, but all really, really preliminary stuff. I always said that's the one thing I'd like to do again, if I ever did anything again. But it kind of required Tim to be involved some way or another. Now it looks like he is involved. And without giving too much away we've talked to each other, and e-mailed each other, and if he's in, it's going to be hard not to be in."
Looks like we're just a solid contract and a "Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice!" away from seeing Lydia and Beetlejuice on the big screen once again. We'll keep you guys in the know as more information becomes available.

The Weekly Swarm: 2/10 - 2/16
We're officially midway through February. How was everybody's Valentine's Day? Mine was spent hanging out with a good friend over some intense pinball games. My younger self would hate how terribly I was playing on Friday, but I digress. Ruby Hornet had a great V-Day, too, with our Top 10 Valentine's Day Films and Peter CottonTale's Valentine's Day Love Jams. His selections set the tone for a night of romance, didn't they? You know what they say about rabbits and their sex drive, after all.
Outside of the Valentine's Day stuff, we had some great content go up last week, including Jaume Collet-Serra's intentions to make Akira his next film, our review of The Returned, the first look at The Purge: Anarchy, Phantogram's new album, Psalm One's Hug Life, ShowYouSuck's video for "Flip Phone," celebrities going nude for W Magazine, and more! Check everything out below.

Top 10 Valentine's Day Films
February 14th: The worst day of the year for every single adult in America. Social networks are full of love doves, digital flowers and candies, and desperate song dedications to significant others (and/or unrequited loves). As you can tell, I'm not the biggest fan of Valentine's Day, whether I was single or taken. Nevertheless, it's hard to ignore what is arguably one of the largest Hallmark Holidays of the year. To commemorate the day full of chocolate hearts and over-priced dinners, Mackenzie O'Brien and I have teamed together to make a list of our Top 10 Valentine's Day Films.
However, I've included a twist to the tried-and-true formula. Whereas Mackenzie played the straight-and-narrow route with some legitimately romantic films, I've chosen some romantic films with some dark elements to them that may or may not have happy endings. Whether you're a hopeless romantic or romantically hopeless, check out Ruby Hornet's official list of Top 10 Valentine's Day Films. I can guarantee there'll be selections here to entice anybody.
