Pee-wee Herman

Paul Reubens Re-Confirms Judd Apatow-produced Pee-Wee Herman Film

It's been 25 years since the last Pee-wee Herman film, Big Top Pee-wee, yet rumors have been circulating for years that a more adult follow-up would begin production. As can be seen, nothing has come from all of the various announcements... until earlier this week. Appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon Wednesday night, Reubens re-confirmed the project, which will be produced by comedy mastermind Judd Apatow. During the interview, of which you can see a clip below, Reubens also states a director has been chosen, but the team was a week away from spilling all of the details.

[youtube id="lQT8tZ3AFgk"]

This is a good sign for not only Pee-wee Herman fans, but Reubens himself. Following some controversy at the turn of the century, the actor has been busy both reprising the Pee-wee Herman character in various sketches, but also small roles in TV and films. By introducing the Pee-wee Herman character to a new generation of comedy fans, Reubens and his crew can find some success in the character's optimism that runs counter to the majority of other popular properties right now.

Marvel Superheroes

Marvel's Phase Three Films Announced and Dated

And just like that, the lid has been blown wide open on Marvel Studios' future slate of films. We already knew about Avengers: Age of Ultron and Ant-Man releasing next year, but now the full slate of films through the first half of 2019 have been announced during a special Marvel Films event earlier today. The films run concurrent with the films that were rumored to be announced awhile back. The full list is as follows:

  • Captain America 3 is now Captain America: Civil War - May 6, 2016
  • Doctor Strange - November 4, 2016
  • Guardians of the Galaxy 2 - May 5, 2017
  • Thor: Ragnarok - July 28, 2017
  • Black Panther  - November 3, 2017
  • Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 - May 4, 2018
  • Captain Marvel - July 6, 2018
  • Inhumans - November 2, 2018
  • Avengers: Infinity War Part II - May 3, 2019

The biggest surprises (outside of the aforementioned rumored leak) are the Black Panther and Captain Marvel films, as well as the lack of a Hulk standalone film. Everything else looks to be keeping in line with Marvel's normal strategy of releasing two films a year (with 2017 being an exception). There's still wiggle room for a surprise announcement (Spider-Man joining the fray, mayhaps?), but this looks to be what'll be emptying our wallets at the box office over the next five years. Are you ready?

Benedict Cumberbatch

Marvel in Talks with Benedict Cumberbatch to Play Doctor Strange

After talks between Marvel and Joaquin Phoenix died down earlier this month, things weren't looking so good with the film. While Guardians of the Galaxy was Hollywood's summer blockbuster savior and Marvel's biggest risk-turned-profit, there still existed a level of concern for Marvel Studios in regards to the Joaquin Phoenix situation and the Ant-Man/Edgar Wright shenanigans. It's as if, suddenly, a kink in Marvel's armor was beginning to form, slowly unraveling into a downward spiral of failure after such a long run of success... or not.

Because as it turns out, Marvel went back to the drawing board, set their sights on somebody big, and somebody big they got. Deadline is reporting that Sherlock star (and the internet's favorite actor) Benedict Cumberbatch is being viewed as THE guy Marvel wants to portray the Sorcerer Supreme. Negotiations haven't officially begun, but it appears very likely that Cumberbatch would be more than willing to sign on to a multiple-film contract.

Marvel might finally have their Doctor Strange, and it couldn't be a better actor than Cumberbatch. Anybody who's seen Sherlock knows how immensely talented he is, and with Doctor Strange sharing some similar quirks with Sherlock Holmes, Cumberbatch is a natural fit for the role. I'm personally looking forward to seeing Cumberbatch in a goatee, which should make the internet go insane.

[Weekly Netflix Fix] The Hunger Games: Catching Fire Catches Fire on Netflix

This week's Weekly Netflix Fix features a small cache of new additions to Netflix Instant; however, while the amount of new titles isn't many, Netflix is preaching quality over quantity this week with The Hunger Games: Catching Fire representing the major update for the week. Of course, the film's addition is tied to The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1's theatrical release next month, so it doesn't come with too much surprise. Also added this week is Josh Radnor's (How I Met Your Mother) directorial debut, Liberal Arts, which also stars soon-to-be Avengers: Age of Ultron star Elizabeth Olsen.

The Simpsons

[Video] The Simpsons Reimagined in Other Cartoon Styles

The Simpsons' annual "Treehouse of Horror" special allows the creators to have fun with everybody's favorite yellow-skinned cartoon family. This year, the big tease was having the current Simpsons family meeting their past incarnations as they were originally drawn on The Tracy Ullman Show. However, the big surprise was the introduction of The Simpsons' incarnations in different cartoon styles. As a big fan of comics, I'm used to the idea of the Multiverse in which various incarnations of characters exist, and seeing The Simpsons play with this concept was a fun one.

Watch the clip below and see if you can guess all of the shows/films The Simpsons references!

Gone Girl's run at the top of the box office has been halted thanks to David Ayer's new film, Fury. In just a few short weeks, Fun Fun Fun Fest will be returning to Austin, TX. It wasn't that long ago that we found out the daily band lineups, and now, we have the full hourly schedule for the three-day festival.
