Bruce Campbell is Groovy in Ash vs. Evil Dead TV Teaser
[youtube id="-ncef44CHrI"]
What pairs better with nice weather than being reunited with everybody's favorite groovy evil vanquisher? It's been a few months since we found out Bruce Campbell, Sam Raimi, and Rob Tapert were continuing the adventures of Ash Williams in a Starz TV series. However, with the sun coming out to play, so too does Ash and the iconic chainsaw.
In case you weren't aware, Ash vs. Evil Dead will carry on where 1992's Army of Darkness left off. While the trio have publicly stated their approval and enjoyment of the 2013 Evil Dead reboot, they've decided to move forward with the original timeline, ending any potential future for Fede Alvarez's take on the Evil Dead universe. However, both Raimi and Tapert are co-producing Alvarez's next film, A Man in the Dark, so the business relationship is still in tact (and could possibly lead to more Evil Dead from the talented director).
It makes sense for Campbell, Raimi, and Tapert to focus on their specific Evil Dead franchise, given the somewhat tepid response the reboot received. As I've noted lately, nostalgia is in right now, and who really wouldn't scoff at watching Ash mow through evil some more?
Ash vs. Evil Dead will premiere on Starz this fall.

Twin Peaks Revival Expands to 18 Episodes, Reunites with David Lynch
The Twin Peaks revival faced a huge roadblock in its quest to return last month when series creator/director David Lynch walked out on the production over money disputes with Showtime. At the time, it seemed like all was lost for the cult favorite TV series, with many questioning who was truly at fault over the breakup. However, a few weeks ago, Lynch and Showtime were able to settle their differences and re-negotiated a new contract.
For Twin Peaks fans, the news continues to get better. Not only is Lynch returning to direct all nine episodes that were originally ordered, the episode order for the season has doubled to 18 episodes. Rumors about Lynch's departure swirled about his vision extending past the original nine episode order, and the announcement all but confirms the source of conflict. As I said at the time, "...with some like Lynch, anything less than full commitment would probably garner a weaker product," and that appears to be very true in this instance.
Situations like this are rare in the entertainment industry, but it's great to see Showtime understands and respects Lynch's artistic vision. Hopefully, this whole situation will be nothing more than a curious footnote come the show's return.

Robert Rodriguez Directing Live-Action Jonny Quest Film
Color me surprised - Sin City: A Dame to Kill For director Robert Rodriguez is making his return to the family-friendly market with his next film. It's being reported that Rodriguez is officially attached to direct a live-action film adaptation of the 1960s Hanna-Barbera cartoon, Jonny Quest.
The news comes at a crucial time in Hollywood where beloved children's franchises like Jem and the Holograms, Peanuts, and Power Rangers are finding modern film adaptations after years of (questionably) successful film adaptations of other shows like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, G.I. Joe, and Transformers.
While Rodriguez is most notably recognized for his ultra-stylized Sin City films, the director has found more success with his other franchise: Spy Kids. Rodriguez should find no trouble translating his abilities shaped by the four Spy Kids films with the Jonny Quest adaptation, given the two series' common threads of family-centric importance and action/adventure/spy/sci-fi settings.
Rodriguez will co-write the film's screenplay with Terry Rossio (Aladdin, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Lone Ranger) based on a draft written by Dan Mazeau (Wrath of the Titans, The Flash). Previously, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Zac Efron were on board for a proposed Jonny Quest adaptation, but the project never took off.

WWE Payback 2015: Results and Match Reviews
A day later than intended, but we're doing it—we're looking at WWE Payback 2015, AKA a decent but forgettable episode of Monday Night Raw or Smackdown. This didn't even feel like a $9.99 network commitment. Payback 2015 should have come with your basic cable package, and woe to anyone who shelled out the coin to buy this on actual pay per view.
Yes, Payback is the latest in a string of inconsequential pay per views on the road to SummerSlam, which may explain why the entire event was lackluster overall. The thin roster, repeated matches, and lack of decent storylines means that everyone was wrestling tonight for everyone's favorite reason: because wrestling.
The two bright spots in all this: The New Day and the Spanish announce table es muy fuerte!
Let's go through this flimsy card and hope for something better when Elimination Chamber closes out May and Money in the Bank starts to make the next few months interesting.
But for now, Payback 2015.
