[Album Stream] Angel Haze: "Dirty Gold"

A couple of days ago, Angel Haze took Danny Brown-like threats to her label, Island, to a new high by actually leaking the project herself on her personal website. Having forced the label's hand, the caved and the stream was down fairly quickly. Perhaps demonstrating the true power of artists in the music industry today, Haze did something that is often seen as problematic for artists, to herself by leaking the project after several attempts by the label to continue moving the release date further back. Well, it's finally here (officially). Angel Haze's Dirty Gold is a welcome drop for the XXL Freshman-lister and is a solid building on previously released remixes and singles. Give Angel Haze's latest a solid listen, streaming below, and read an open letter about her leaking the project early.

"It's so annoying that my label could tell me that if I fucking finished my album before the summer it would be out this year. I have gone to bat for this music. I have gone to bat for myself. I have literally sat fucking sleepless and starved crying over this shit. I turned down so much shit to be sure that I could finish this album because actually wanting something to me means doing all you can to be sure that it's attainable. I stopped arguing my point. Stopped giving a fuck about everything. Let these other ditsy bitches disrespect me. I turned my fucking cheek because MUSIC IS ALL I FUCKING HAVE. And I know that's the same for some of you. I did everything I could for you. I did not promise an album and not deliver, unlike every fucking one else. I sat my ass down and came up with this music WHEN I HAD NOTHING. Taking shit on the chin does not mean sitting back and letting the world beat and suck you fucking dry. It's knowing something is bigger than anything you are or will ever be and sitting the fuck down and complying to get shit done. I'm sorry if I seem angry. But these are my dreams. The only thing I have in my life. Imagine having the only reason you're alive being the very thing straining your existence. Ughhhh... So sorry to Island/Republic Records, but fuck you. I got here doing this for my fans and if you guys don't feel the same, it won't stop me. Idc what happens after this. They will get the music they were promised. And you guys JUST MAY LEARN TO KEEP YOUR FUCKING WORD."

New stills from Robocop remake

I flip flop with my feelings over the Robocop remake. On the one hand, I like the direction seen in the first trailer, and my excitement over it was definitely reflected in my write-up. The second trailer, however, tempered my excitement. Sure, it was more action-heavy, but it was borderline generic and not that entertaining. From what I've seen, general reactions to the first footage have been mixed at best. Nevertheless, the prospect of watching a cyborg balance his robotic enhancements with his dormant humanity is one that will always stand the test of time... even if Robocop's right hand is exposed. Below are a few new stills from the film to whet any appetites as we await two short months for the film to hit theaters.

Everybody is on their phone.  Thousands of people everyday wear out their thumbs scrolling through photos, deciding which ones to post on Instagram. It’s so easy to do whether you’re a photographer or not; just point, shoot, choose a filter and post whatever you created. [Video] Would you drive a car made out of Legos?

Legos are basically god's gift to mankind. The possibilities for some amazing Lego stuff is only limited by our imaginations (and number of bricks). I've seen some amazing DIY Lego sets (like the awesome Ghostbusters set), a plethora of amusing stop-motion films, and even a Hollywood animated film. The magnitude of what can be done with Legos was recently heightened exponentially by a small group of guys for a little something called the Super Awesome Micro Project.

Steve Sammartino, a Melbourne entrepreneur, and Raul Oiada, a Romanian "technology genius," created a life-size, drivable Lego car (with some help of a number of financial backers). To accomplish the amazing feat, more than 500,000 Legos were used, the car's Lego-made engine runs on air, and has four orbital engines and 256 pistons. While it won't be winning any races (top speeds were capped at 12 mph - 17 mph), it's an amazing accomplishment and shows what a little money and a lot of Legos and imagination can do.

I predict Lego hoverboards to become the next big thing. Get at it, Lego inventors! You can read more about the Super Awesome Micro Project on their website.

[Video] Chance The Rapper Performs on Arsenio Hall

Chance The Rapper and co. wrapped up their "Social Experiment Tour" yesterday in Los Angeles with a performance at the Nokia Theater. Before heading there, though, they made a stop at the Arsenio Hall Show where Chance, backed by his band of Peter CottonTale, Nico Segal, Nate Fox and Greg Landfair, and looking fresh to death in custom "Social Experiment" letterman jackets, played their re-arranged live version of "Chain Smoker" off of Acid Rap, which has steadily been making the rounds at the top of nearly everyone's top albums of the year list.

Throughout the performance Chano seemed to be reveling in the moment, soaking in the feeling of having propelled himself to this very point. As Chance closes the book on a historic 2013, his performance on "Arsenio" seemed to be a sort of revelatory moment. Watch the full streaming video below from last night and scroll just a little further for Chance's hilarious interview with Nardwuar while he was on tour in Vancouver.

[Video] Freddie Gibbs: "Deuces"

It's been a minute since we've heard something fresh from Indiana's finest, Freddie Gibbs. This time around, the seminal gangsta rap artist of our time teams up with the mastermind of the drill sound in Young Chop for this dark, ominous track. In what seems like a match made in heaven for Chop and Gibbs to get together on a track, the song is as gritty and street-conscious as you'd expect and another solid get for Chop, who recently put out a track with Taylor Gang's Wiz Khalifa. The video for the single dropped yesterday and has ESGN Films’, Danny Manhattan following Gangsta Gibbs from his hometown of Gary, Ind., to nearby Chicago. Take a dip into Freddie Gibbs' world in the video below and pick up the track via iTunes.

[Video] Cadillac Duke: "Pop Out" (Remix)

If you've turned on a radio at any point in the past year or so around the Chicagoland area, you were likely to be inundated with the catchy bop-anthem "Pop Out" by local artist Katie Got Bandz that cemented her name in the Chicago scene with the radio hit. Fellow Chicagoan and LOD member Cadillac Duke gave the track a once-over in this re-done version of the track, aided by the steady hands of producer Don Hulio. Becoming "Caddy Got Bandz" for the song, the MC adds a delightful spin to the banger. With his Dirty Bruce project slated for an early 2014 release, "Pop Out Remix" may be just the thing to get the people talking. Bryan Lamb (FragD Films) and Wisam of Four Stars Chicago shot and edited the video below. Pop Out!

[Video] Add-2 Toca Tuesday Freestyle

Chicago's own Add-2 has been consistently adding to the great year he's had already and the other day continued to do so, stopping by Shade45 to spit a freestyle on Toca Tuesdays. Riding over a beat set down by Tony Touch, the witty lyricist mashed together a healthy helping of rhyme scheme and wordplay to prove why he got a look from legendary producer 9th Wonder, who signed Add to his JAMLA imprint back in October. It's been exciting to see Add get his due, and to add another Midwest product to the larger hip-hop landscape. Check out the video of Add-2 going in streaming below and be sure to pick up his latest project, and his first as part of JAMLA, Between Heaven & Hell with Khrysis.
